Hello, I am extremely scared about my current symptoms.

About 4 months ago I developed unilateral tinnitus in my left ear only and at the same time my eyesight began to deteriorate rapidly.

I have had 2 MRI scans of the brain and no reason for these symptoms can be identified.

The tinnitus is always there (no hearing loss) but does fluctuate throughout the day. My eyesight is getting worse by the day and I recently had what I hope was a migraine aura for the first time at 45 years old with no headache. Obviously my fear is a brain tumour but surely the MRI scans have ruled this out.

Anyone have any thoughts? I've seen a neurologist, GPs and ENT and I'm none the wiser.

      Thanks. J

      Hello @Worriedguy74 -

As you might imagine, I cannot responsibly make a diagnosis over the Internet based upon your symptoms. There are just too many possibilities. What I can tell you is that the specialist most suited to assessing a person with unilateral tinnitus along with visual disturbance would be a neuro-ophthalmologist.

All the best with it. I will keep a good thought for you.

      Stephen M. Nagler, M.D.
