      Tinnitus Since:
      1 week
      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Stress
My Tinnitus started 2 month ago with a sudden strong ringing in both ears.I was going crazy and went to several doctors.I got a hearing test and it turned out that my hearing was perfect.I was prescribed Ginko and told that after 3 month it should be gone...this was the specialist at UCLA for neck ,ears and throat.
I went home and was kind of happy that this would might help me...but 3 month seemed a long time.

I could not sleep anymore due to the loud noises in my ears.I tried to listen to music or white noises.I was loosing my mind.No sleep during the night and noises during the day.I ended up at the emergency due to a nervous breakdown and got some medication to relax which I could not take as they made me dizzy.I started doing therapy and got prescribed Zoloft to deal with the anxiety and panic.I went to see my chiropractor to have him look at it and he started fixing my neck.He said that my tightend muscles are pushing my jaw out of line and that it puts pressure on my nerves causing the ringing. After the first treatment the ringing subsided and I was staring to have hope.Soon afterwards it came back but at least it had some effect.I started doing acupuncture.

I could tell that my neck , shoulders and and the jaw was very inflamed.I changed my pillow and sleeping position from the side to the back position.Went to the gym ,did yoga and continued seeing the chiropractic at least once a week.Took B12,Turmeric,Ginko,Co Q-10 to fight the inflammation and specially icing down the neck.Massaged my jaw , neck and my back and saw differences in the ringing. Some days it was strong some days it was almost gone.I did specific neck and posture exercises to reverse the damage done due to accidents specially limiting the iPhone bend over position.Last I visited the dentist to check for TMJ.Yes I had it and was recommend a night guard for clinching my teeth. The ringing was gone in my left ear but still in the right one.Mostly at night I would wake up and have a strong ring in my right ear.Every morning it was strong pulsating but could sometimes manipulate it with massages.Still was very distressed about it but at least had good days and some really bad ones.
Now 2 month later it is almost gone in the right ear too...when I am really tired and stressed it flares up but it is more a tingle then a ring.I saw on the x-rays from the dentist that my jaw was not aligned correct and that the right side had a smaller space then the left.

Get your neck checked!!!!!!! , got to the gym, eat healthy, take Ginko , B12, Turmeric., do Yoga, do not give up it can be from bad posture, accidents, TMJ...a combination of all of that.My chiropractor saved me as he said that he can fix it by alignment of my jaw and spine. He was right.I will get right of it 100% I am for sure.

Last week I was still miserable a week later I am back enjoying my life again.I wake up now a it is gone.Still a slight tingle.

I hope you will find a way to get better...go and get your neck and jaw checked...I thought that I have to life with this ringing as nobody ever talk about the neck and posture issues.

      @Matterhorn

This is really great to read. I am due to go to acupunture and physiotherapy next week. I have pulsatile and have just realised I can almost stop it completely when I put pressure on the back of my head/neck behind my ear (it ached a bit after mind). Perhaps this is similiar although I am not sure if mine is jaw related. Anyways I am pleased you have solved your PT mystery :)

What specialist at UCLA? I have never seen any doctor that said it would go away with a pill. I might have to see the one you are talking about. Did you like them? I live in LA.

It is Dr.Gope he is the head of Neck, throat and ears.
There is a study that 70 %people with no hearing loss have a chance to improve their tinnitus with a 3 month Ginko intake.

      Hi Jaclem
Also try a chiropractor as it has to do with alignments in your neck.
If you respond to manipulating your muscles in your neck you have a great chance to get rid of it.

      Cause of Tinnitus:
Not sure, maybe dental and facial nerve
      Hi Matterhorn!

MY T started lat month, its loud pitched and continious ringing, kind of hard to take though there are days when its low and there are days when its high. I feel this all started with a dental infection that did affect nerves on my face as well, I get weird nerve sensations and burning on the side of my tongue. I also went through pulling three tooth on May 5th in hope the the ringing will go away, but no such luck. I have posture and bad back issues and right now also dealing with pain in my neck. Went to the ortho who said my neck was not so much inflamed but yes there is some degenerative stuff going on.

I have been to two ENTs and both confirmed that I do not have a hearing loss. I saw a maxo facial surgeon yesteday who said one of my jaws clicked, but he said I could open my jaw wide and he did not feel this is a TMJ case at all!

What is this Ginko herb ??? Where did you get it, what dosage did you take...since I am not having hearing loss, thinking will give it a try....

      Thanks for your help.

      Mita

Also just adding some things about my tinnitus which are funny -
      (1) Its increases if I go out in cold wind or our in cold
      (2) Increases if I sit down on the comp (might have to do with my neck)
      (3) Salt intake worsens it
      (4) Loud noise worsens it (I cant mask it , it grows worse)

Dont know what to do....and I have an anxiety issue as well.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

I was living in temporary accommodation for 3 months with a terrible bed and chair/desk setup, but I had to work and (and sleep of course) but I could feel my neck/shoulder/posture getting worse every week. Then one day I woke up with high-pitched ringing Tinnitus and it will not go away. I had no clue there could be a link until I read this - I thought it was because I bought new headphones last year and have been using them too much (but I never put volume high at all, so I was totally confused).

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to share you story so that I at least have some hope now and an avenue of inquiry I can attack! Off to my Yoga mat now that I am out of the temporary accommodation and back home!
