What is the thing that sticks out? Is it used to help pull them out of the ears, or pop out the filter? Does it have another purpose? When these plugs are in, if the stem sticking out is touched/brushed against, does it make a loud sound?

The Microsonic plugs don't have the thing sticking out.... Hell I don't know what's up with all of this..... I have a choice between getting these 2 brands and don't know which way to go.

Do you all think the brand matters? ...between Westone and Microsonic?

Do you find that your custom plugs do a good job of reducing occlusion? This is one of the main reasons why I'd be getting custom plugs.

The deeper the earplugs go, the lower the occlusion effect.

Talk to your audiologist, he'll help you :) When it comes to selling you stuff, they're surprisingly knowledgable.

Lol, yeah I hear you. I tend to do a lot of research beforehand and would rather not have to make a decision on the fly. For me, just better to be prepared.

It seems like the Westones would be easier to get in and out (whole plug and also filter) than the Microsonics. Anyone have experience with either? It just looks like it might be harder to grab onto the Microsonic and I may be taking it in and out during the day.
