I never see them that upset publicly about it.

Actually I know a vet I've made friends with that works as a gun smith....he shoots all the time and doesn't give his T a second thought. I keep asking him how he does it and he just doesn't care. He just tells me he has more important things to worry about. I wish I could do that. Said he barely hears it at all...wish I could be that strong and care free.

Yeah that's probably why it doesn't bother him.
When mine was mild in left ear and moderate in the right it didn't affect me much at all, but now with 24/7 severe T in both ears it is a living hell, there is no not noticing severe intractable T.

Large caliber rifles&machine guns, +30 years of loud clubs
If he barely hears it then yes no issue
I was in the military and when you are young your ears can take it and no one has T

Age plays a big role here

That's a pretty big generalization. Damage is cumulative over a lifetime, but young people can get severe T too.

It sounds like his T is quiet.

Yup. Probably headed there right now and I'm only 27. Mine has only gotten worse since it started and my hearing seems to be slipping more and more. I can only imagine where I'll be at 28. My only hope seems to be with some of the experimental treatments discussed here. Too bad they're 5-10 years away and that's if they work well.

Could it be that you have been doing something to cause this decline? Are there activities that always result in spikes (e.g., shower instead of a bath) that you continue doing?

I've made all the changes that were advised. Only thing I haven't given up is showers but I do use plugs. It reduces my spike after I come out. My decibel meter reads an average exposure in the 50 range. The only real issue is that my parents haven't been supportive at all and continue to yell at me. I was finally able to convince them that my issue is related to hearing loss and they finally made some adjustments. Too bad I had to go through so much before this happened. I did my best to limit exposure. I would move out but rent is close to 2k here and I don't want to throw away all my money too fast. Especially now that I took time off from work. Most likely will have to drop out to salvage what I can here. I will go to specialist soon and maybe start TRT.
