      Skateboarding in basement? Sudden dizziness
Hello my name is Ethan and I would just like to know what others think the cause of my tinnitus is.

It all began last month in November when I suddenly got noticeable tinnitus after having a vertigo-like attack for 10 seconds or less. I would have these occasionally and it would sometimes be accompanied by a loud high pitched constant tone in my head.

This time it was super loud and while it did get quieter it never stopped. My mom took me to a pediatrician and when he was no help, the ER. I was googling tinnitus for hours and all that was in my head is that it was incurable and potentially can last for life. Just today I went to a audiogram and the results were I had normal hearing and my ears looked healthy.

I don't know what to think I'm still horrified this might last forever and I want to hear some opinions.

If you want to ask more questions go right ahead.

There is no cure, but often it fades away by itself. Many people end up getting to the "can hear it only in a quiet room" stage. There is a good chance that you will notice it fading about 3 months after the onset. It might take another year or two for it to finish fading. What you are hearing now is likely not what you will end up stuck with.

Just try to ensure to not harm your ears during this vulnerable stage of recovery.

While some form of tinnitus may be not curable or be reversed, others can. If your tinnitus is from a medically related problem, such as inflammation inside the ears, ETD, TMJ etc, then when those conditions have been healed, the tinnitus may be gone or may fade over time. So don't rule out that your tinnitus is incurable.

There are many causes, single or combined, which can trigger or aggravate tinnitus including but not limited to drug side-effects from ototoxic drugs, ear wax build-up, ear-wax removal suction, inner ear infection, Eustachian tube disorder or ETD, ear drum injury, fluid build-up in ears feeling pressured or fullness, sinus infection & congestion especially with a bad cold, TMJ, TTTS, autoimmune disorders such as Lyme Disease & Fibromyalgia, high blood pressure or blood circulation problem, anemia, loud noise exposure or acoustic trauma/shock, acoustic neuroma tumor, head injury or TBI, neck injury or muscle problems, hearing loss from aging or other causes, Meniere's Decease, barotrauma from rapid pressure changes in flights or diving, especially with congested nose or sinus causing failure to balance the pressure changes, slapping of the ears, deep grief, untreated sleep apnea, extreme/extended stress, anxiety & panic disorder, depression, sleep deprivation, etc. T can also be caused or made worse by unhealthy diet such as too much salt, sugar, caffeine, MSG, alcohol etc. or by lacking some mineral or vitamin supplements, such as Magnesium, Zinc, B12, D3 etc.

So run through the list to see if you have anything close to above mentioned conditions near the start of your tinnitus. Then have a ENT check your ears to rule out ears related issues. If nothing, then if you suspect it may be related to anything above, then have the right kind of specialist check things out. For example, your vertigo may be related to Meniere's disease. Have it check out. As for habituation, it may likely happen 6 months to 18 months for many people. So don't think it is a life time problem as too much worrying will cause added stress and anxiety to the brain, which tend to aggravate tinnitus. Take care. God bless.

Hey ho there, this sounds a bit like me. I often used to have these type of vertigo where it felt like i was falling and had tinnitus for like 10 seconds (as far as i remember it was my right ear - and now i have T). Had them also at your age.
And like you one day when I turned my head to the left my T got "stuck" ( i was 23).

I would maybe suggest to go and see kinesiotherapist (or physiotherapist ) perhaps one that is specialised with neck and mouth (TMJ).

Also do you have any issue with your teeth, jaw or neck ?

Be positive and don't put that music too loud on your speakers ;)
