Hi all, I have had tinnitus in my left ear for a one year but for the last two weeks I have been hearing one more whooshing type of sound (like wind is blowing in the ocean) in addition to the regular constant whistle sound.

So I went to to an ENT, she ordered a hearing test and based on the hearing test she will decide if I need a CT scan or an MRI. Although she seems to be a good doctor, I'm not sure why she can't go for an MRI directly since MRI is better than a CT scan...

      Anyone faced a similar situation?

An MRI is very loud, even with protection. I would advise against it.

One isn't better than the other: it depends on what you are looking for.
She will determine the proper imaging technology to use based on what she sees in your hearing test results.
This seems pretty reasonable to me.

Thanks GregCA and Croaker for providing your inputs. @GregCA I kind of agree with you... I really hope she does better job then my previous ENT specialists.
