Cause of Tinnitus
Myofascial crap Bruxism, a jackhammer, stress who knows
I have read on a few posts that many believe too much adrenaline is a the root of hyperacusis. I wonder if the drug Prazosin could help. It's said to reduce adrenaline and it's being used to treat PTSD?

Has anyone tried this or have any thoughts?

Adrenaline is just about the strongest hormone as far as I know, it's incredibly stimulating and excitatory, and its biological function is to turn on the fight-or-flight response. So, no mystery why so many "anxiety disorders" and anxiety problems in general seem to revolve around being stuck in an excess adrenaline state.

I can't answer your second question because basically drugs scare me and I have been able to unwind my own crazy anxiety/adrenaline issues through other means over a long period of time. I'm not aware of any studies assessing the safety or utility of a1 blockers for sensory disorders.

How? Just curious.
All the usual boring stuff. Therapy, painful introspection, diligent exercise and meditation and yoga, regular sleep, good diet. And, having a lot of really awesome, understanding, supportive people in my life has been absolutely essential for me. I'm not brilliant or especially strong, but I've never had a hard time leaning on people when I need to and I have been blessed with lots of people to lean on.

That said, I've never grappled with severe hyperacusis, but when I was dealing with it at all, it was a direct result of being stuck in a state of severely heightened stress and almost no sleep for weeks/months straight. So I believe the adrenaline/H theory.

And, don't get me wrong, it's not a cakewalk. I'm not "fixed". I deal with anxiety daily, sometimes worse than others. If I measured success as "I feel awesome all the time", I'd never get there. But, I have a lot of awesome things in my life and I can enjoy them a lot of the time, so that's good enough to keep me going.

Adrenaline...blood flow....blood pressure? If hyperacusis can be attributed to a vascular issue then there's a possible link right there. Prazosin is primarily a blood pressure pill.

Blood pressure is what it was first used for but its an adrenaline blocker. The VA is using it to treat PTSD for soldiers coming back from combat. I would be interested to see a study that used Adrenaline Blocker for Hyperacusis.

I would too. You don't see it used much for hypertension over here these days. ACE blocker or inhibitor drugs are the fad now. A lot of secondary uses for drugs are discovered by accident.
