Alternatives to Ciproflaxin for Outer Ear Infection? Urgent, Please Respond

So, I have been diagnosed with an Outer Ear Infection. I was prescribed Ciprofloxacin. However, I'm reading here and elsewhere that this is unsafe for the ears? What alternative treatment could I try? I am concerned both to use the Ear Drops, and also to leave the infection untreated. What would my best course of action be right now? Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone? Really unsure of how to proceed, and trying to get into contact with a Doctor to ask about alternatives. I'm really afraid of leaving the infection untreated, but also really afraid of this medicine. I don't know what to do.

 

If you want reliable data, I suggest you look into clinical studies, not anecdotal evidence on an internet forum. While people are generally well meaning, they rarely have any credentials or proper (scientific) methods that suggest that they should be trusted with their testimonies.

I researched Ciprodex when it was prescribed to my daughter after her tube surgery. I ended up concluding that it was probably the safest choice for her, especially because her ear drums were ventilated and drops could reach her cochlea. Perhaps you'll reach the same conclusion.

If your ear drum isn't even perforated, the odds of drops reaching your cochlea seem quite infinitesimal anyways.

 

Thank you for the detailed response. And no, my Eardrum isn't perforated. So, you think it's safe to take? I guess I will have to consider doing so if there are no safer alternatives.

 

I would personally not sweat about it, especially without a perforated ear drum.
No medication is 100% safe unfortunately, so I won't claim that it's safe, but like I said, I prefer its safety profile to the alternatives.

 

Well, currently taking the drops, and hoping for the best. I will respond back here after I'm finished with the drops, and report on how it went for the sake of posterity, and (hopefully) to quell any fears about these drops, should things go well. update? Got some drops from an ENT today...would like to know how it went....
