      Hi everyone,

I have had tinnitus for approximately 3 months now. Not sure what caused it, but one morning I woke up with a whooshing sound in my left ear that would get louder as my heart rate increased. After a few days the whooshing sound went away, but has since been replaced by ringing in both ears (two different tones). I have been to an Audiologist - have perfect hearing. MRI came up clear. I did an OAE (Otoacoustic Emissions) and my hair cells are not damaged.

I am now considering doing a CT scan, as I am really determined to find out what the cause of my tinnitus is. Has anyone managed to find the cause of their tinnitus by getting a CT scan done? What questions should I ask my GP when I talk to him about CT scans?

MRI is most useful according to 2 ENTs I've seen.

No harm in getting a CT.

      I would try physiotherapy.

My ENT actually brought up the idea of getting a CT scan to me. Going to see my GP in a week and talk to him about it.

I’ve only ever had a MRI for my tinnitus. It would be interesting to see what your CT scan shows should you decide to get one! xx

Yup. Otosclerosis (among other clues; it's not "this alone tells me it's Otosclerosis").

A CT scan is a lot of radiation so make sure that it is of diagnostic value.

Quick update. I saw my GP and he is referring me to an ENT unit at a nearby hospital.

It could be a while before I get an appointment, but hopefully something is found.
