      So I woke up this morning and struggled to open my mouth.

      I also noticed I had been clenching in my sleep.

      My jaw was really hurting. It's been hurting for days.

      Also to the left of my right ear, behind it, it's very sore. Is this TMJ? I do suffer neck and shoulder issues as well.

      @Fally,
      Teeth grinding or clenched jaw can put pressure on the jaw joint causing you tinnitus. You can get crunching and cracking of the jaw joint also when open and close your mouth.

      Your dentist can make you a mouth guard to wear at night over your lower teeth to reduce the jaw pressure and over about 4 weeks you should notice improvement.

      Try not over byte on food eg,cut a apple up,don't over stretch your jaw with a burger or bulky sandwich and cut food up small like steak etc.
      Facial relaxation can help also.

      Hi Glynis,

      Thanks, I went to the doctor yesterday told me I had TMJ she's given me some Valium to see if it relaxes my muscles because shes convinced the jaw clenching is from from my anxiety. We are going to reevaluate in 2 weeks to see if it worked.
