I'm at the end of my rope and I'm considering a benzo as my last resort. I see a therapist on the 15th.

Any recommendations for a benzo? Or if you can tell me your experience, that would be helpful.

Some people find clonazepam reduces tinnitus loudness and there is some research to indicate this. But there are potential side effects of course plus dangers of addiction so caution and short term use needed. Very important to speak to a doctor who knows your medical history and can decide if this is appropriate.

If you don't take them correctly you can quickly build up a tolerance. Sorry that wasn't the answer to your question.

Valium, but it's really addictive. Make sure you stop after 3 weeks, perhaps a month. But you have to stop, detox properly... etc.

Some people here have taken benzos for years with no complaints. For me personally, it's a nice back up when the shite hits the fan. But I can't go for long term use... not now at least.

Doctors hate benzos now, but they are awesome for tinnitus... pretty much a fact. It reduces your anxiety caused by the tinnitus, so it seems quieter. If you're in a bad way, I would go for it. Half of America is downing ADs and SSRIs like candy.

I would say the Gabapentin plus Klonopin combination that Shulman talked about. @OnceUponaTime has seen Shulman recently... she might be a good reference. Antidepressants have awful side effects, at least for me anyway.

Lorazepam (Ativan) works well for me but I am wary of becoming dependent. Reduces anxiety to manageable levels and consequently reduces tinnitus annoyance factor. Also really helps with getting a few hours sleep when I am a complete wreck.

Point well taken. I 100 percent stand corrected.
I should have said, "it does wonders for me and my tinnitus, but everyone is different and thus may or may not work for you".

Apologies for a gross generalization GregCA, ooooopppps.

they're all basically the same poison, but I think the shorter half life drugs like xanax and ativan are more problem prone than Valium or Klonopin

I have brutal static noise when I wake up every morning. Not sure what to do or take to shut it off. I have some diazepam and klonopin atm but it’s hard to get prescribed.

They are awesome in the beginning, but as tolerance builds for many people, they turn your situation from bad to even worse. You can't compare ADs to benzos. There is a huge difference.

Agreed. I did say "stop at three weeks, or four weeks max".

I am not a doctor, maybe benzos have no place at all in 2019, I was just suggesting a quick fix with a precise time limit. Benzos are and can be dangerous. I never touched or would even had considered popping a pill prior to tinnitus. Benzos are crude, so is brain damage which is what tinnitus is. Or more precisely Ear / Brain damage.

...I am hoping FX-322 or Audion's REGAIN, are the best drugs ever to hit planet earth. At least for us guys and gals with hearing loss and tinnitus.

I find exercise to be a good way of chilling out the nervous system.
Eating well... laughing, and hugging loved ones.

The Danish Girl I like your style and I am wishing you a quiet day.

They all have mild and tolerable side effects in the lit. Longer half life ones are less addictive is all. Eg. Klonopin

Take what your doc gives you. Don’t ask people on the internet. They are used by millions of people around the world safety. Don’t demonise an amazing class of drug, just be safe. Simple..

If you want to take something long term, take an AD.
