Can a Tinnitus Spike Be Permanent?

Hello!! I've had tinnitus and hyperacusis since the beginning of 2014, and it's been hellacious, but over time it definitely didn't bother me much anymore and I could go out and have a pretty normal life about 2 years in and it's great! I get the occasional spike, when I eat too much sugar, and every time I'm on my period I expect it, which is ok cause it'll usually only happen for a week at max.

Recently though, I was having cramps so I took an ibuprofen (I rarely take any sort of pain killers due to spikes) and it seemed my T jumped to a new high.

A day later I was given a new med Treximet for my chronic migraines, I'm not sure if this contributed but now I'm experiencing ringing just as loud as when I first got it, except in one ear it's way louder than the other and now a different pitch.

Also in that ear everything I say or hear has sort of a ringing feedback. I suspect I may have Tonic Tensor Tympani syndrome now.

Anyways it's been about a week and it shows no signs of alleviating.

I was wondering if a tinnitus spike can be permanent? Because I'm starting to worry now, it's incredibly painful.

Spikes suck, yes they do. They happen for a specific reason. I am not advising to take or not take your med, but it could be the reason for the spike remaining...

Be blessed...

God let's hope a spike is never permanent for anyone

@amminnie
It depends what originally caused the tinnitus. If the tinnitus was caused by exposure to loud noise often hyperacusis is present. If the hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound) isn't treated or improves naturally without treatment, the tinnitus will always spike. If the person then uses headphones (even at low volume) they risk the tinnitus spiking and this could become permanent. When tinnitus spikes and the original cause was exposure to "loud noise", the usual reason for the tinnitus spiking is being around loud sounds.

Ahh thanks guys for your feedback!

And @Michael Leigh
yeah, I suspect it was due to medications. There was no clear reason why I got it, but I started taking some antidepressants in that year. Now I'm on 9 different meds and I'm sure it's not helping ehhh
