Don't miss the opportunity to attend Tinnitus Quest's online Q&A with Dr. Susan Shore and Jon Pearson, CEO of Auricle on October 13. We will hear the latest about the Susan Shore Device.
I'm no expert at all but my T started about 4 days after my braces got put on, now that could be a complete coincidence as I also had a cold at the time (which may have been the cause) but just wanted to share.
After talking to my orthodontist, he seemed skeptical that my brace was the cause and said he'd never come across that before- but then again my dentist said it actually could be!
I've heard teeth grinding can definitely cause tinnitus, so maybe braces would be a good option, but just be aware that they might be the opposite!

Hijacking the thread sorry
I had braces for a few months before my T, my T came on after an ear infection. Loud in my right ear, only just audiable in my left sometimes. Would braces have anything to do with it?

I would say if you had an ear infection that would be the likely cause but again, not an expert at all. I'm not sure if a brace would exacerbate the problem or not, maybe ask your orthodontist?
The theory my dentist had as to how braces can cause tinnitus is that they can change the alignment of your jaw, and if this in any way causes pressure on the auditory nerve, it can cause T. However, my T is bilateral and it sounds like yours is too, so i'm not sure how both sides could simultaneously be under pressure. Sorry I couldn't be more help, i'm pretty new to all this!
