I just started doing some part time work as a dish washer a few days a week/5hour shifts.

Does anyone know if the sharp, short sounds of dishes clanking possible damage/cause tinnitus to get worse?

      No.

But if those sounds make you feel uncomfortable, why not just wear ear protection.

I also developed a fear of clanking dishes, can't stand it. Don't think it could cause tinnitus, but like the before poster I would still wear ear plugs just in case.

I just got a few second burst of ringing after work which probably means it may be doing some damage.

Got some good ear plugs and its been fine. Don't really notice any ringing with my ears plugged which is strange.

I banged a pan the other day and had a spike the rest of the day. You should see me doing dishes, holding my ears and jumping around. Crazy.

@seren607 I had to buy earplugs just to be able to wash dishes. The cutlery banging with each other, the plates and glassware sounds were killing me. It has become very painful, and I felt a spike in my tinnitus as well. So I guess I'm even more fucked, and realize I also now have hyperacusis.

It's all to do with volume as far as I'm aware, rather than source.
