Hello, I am already habituated to the loudness of my tinnitus and have been seriously protecting my ears and avoiding very loud environments.

I know a person who recently started using Minoxidil for hair loss, and it has given him great results. I wanted to use it to cover my patchy beard as I know it will really work, however, I recently found that Minoxidil (Rogaine) is a K(IR)6.1 potassium channel opener and that it might affect tinnitus. I have been searching on the internet and so far I have found that there are a lot of people who have used Minoxidil for more than 10 years and have never developed tinnitus.

I found this thread on Tinnitus Talk:

Using Minoxidil / Rogaine for Hair Loss — Impact on Tinnitus?

This member actually perceived an improvement. The only thing I expect is that it doesn't make it worse. I was thinking about applying Minoxidil and taking a GABA supplement at the same time. Any feedback about this?

GABA supplements don't cross the blood brain barrier, they're worthless.

Topical Minoxidil won't get into your system in the amount to make a difference one way or another.

Would gabapentin cross the blood brain barrier?
Quote:
"Although gabapentin is a structural analogue of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which does not cross the blood-brain barrier, gabapentin penetrates into the CNS and its activity is seemingly distinct from GABA-related effects."

From PubMed.

Answer: yes.

Does anyone know if Minoxidil tablets are still sold or prescribed? I cannot find anything online.

I am interested in its K(ATP) channel opening properties.
