Cause of Tinnitus
My T is way different than all of you , ask me how
When I open my jaw my tinnitus gets loud. When I clench my teeth it gets loud.

When I clench my front two teeth with lower ones my tinnitus goes off for a while.

When I push temporomandibular joints, left and right both with my fingers, my tinnitus goes away until I stop pressing them.

Anyone with this kind of tinnitus?

My tinnitus recently got louder after 5 years.

Do you think I should get a mouth guard or a splint?

Plus my tinnitus is on the left side. One day it's loud, next day it's not even there, or very low.

Hello Waq, if you really do have TMJ issues a mouth guard or splint will not sort it sadly. You will be going down a road that could be long and very, very expensive. I've been around with this Tinnitus long enough to think that I have never seen anyone anywhere say they have had their TMJD sorted and their tinnitus has gone.

Basically I reckon you have Somatic Tinnitus.

This is a heavy read https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2633109/

That's a very long read but I do know about somatic tinnitus it is the most common one .. thank you I will read it fully tonight.

I heard that there are exercises related to somatic tinnitus as well to ease up the severity of it, it does include the TMJ exercise as well. I have to look on it more. Thank you.

Clearly for me way before my T came, my Jaw was, and is still, very tight...

It even was very painful on my left ear recently... So I really have to take on consideration this... ;)

I try to relax my Jaw as much as possible...

I think everyone with T must !

Peace !

Yes mostly people got rid of their tinnitus with their dental work done, and gonna go to dentist soon as well.

Yes most of the time... But sometimes I have mini-spikes quite strong but they disappear after a few seconds... I don't know why they come...

Do you do some exercices to help relax your jaw ?

Yes I do get mini spikes as well and they do go away in a second. These spikes are related to some neck muscles or veins.

I don't have TMJ but I do get physical therapy twice a month which is a special skull massage that focuses on the tension in my head. It really helps to ease that tense feeling and seems to quiet the noise for a while.

My insurance covers this as long as you do not mention the word tinnitus or hyperacusis.

I had to go with a soft mouth guard. The hard one hurt my jaw even more. The soft one helps protect your teeth if you are a grinder.
