Cause of Tinnitus
Fluid, from a cold. No noise damage or infection.
I've had tinnitus for only 4 days and its driving me insane. I've had popping in my ear for about 6 months, but that's fine I can deal with that. I got a cold 3 weeks ago today and on sunday started to get tinnitus. I had been trying to sleep for 15 minutes when I heard it. I also have crackling, ear ache, a sore throat (I have some sort of white thing on my tonsils), and my jaw is clicking. My GP was no help, he basically shoved me out the door. I'm really freaking out, I need this to get better! I haven't hardly slept the last 4 days and this is all really getting to me. The worst thing is that I don't know if it will get better and if it does when. Could it go???

Yes. It can definitely go. No one can say whether yous will go or not, but it is entirely possible. Many cases aren't permanent until after 1-2 years. If you have an ear ache you might want to go to the doctor to rule out some kind of ear infection. Also, your popping.crackling could be normal if it's only when you swallow or yawn. Tinnitus is worrying and I won't patronize you and say to just ignore it when I know how hard it is, but it has the possibility of going away and also anxiety has the ability to ramp up one's perception of T. Sit tight and find some masking tracks that you can play in the background. There are some available through TTalk and if you look on YouTube.

I believe MOST do....but it can take time (a couple of months).

Try to carry on with life as usual and, with a bit of luck, you'll have no need to come back to this site (But do, if this happens, so others can see).

Fungus.
