Is it just me or am I having a rotten string of luck...

Two weeks ago it was car with no muffler starting up beside me in the parking lot... did a short course of Prednisone, towards the end of that (Thursday), I woke up to a very low tinnitus day...

And later that same day, I accidentally blasted myself with my laptop at full volume for a few seconds (measured later at 80 dB)... Tinnitus spiked hard the next day and stayed up.

Then yesterday, the power goes out and when it came back on the hardware smoke detectors shreiked for half a second (I know it was very short, but also very loud). Then the power goes out again, so I flipped the circuit breaker on the smoke detectors to avoid that unpleasantry again.

Power comes back on, ahh nice... go and hit the laptop for a few minutes and a family member (who should have known better) goes and flips the breaker back on and I get another loud but short shriek over my head.

Just can't seem to catch a break... and when I do, I mess it up. Tinnitus spiking hard, is it just me or does anybody else suffer from these bad runs of luck?

I had two good blasts of smoke detectors these last few weeks as well, the first wasn't bad, the second was much worse due to my ear being about a foot from the damn thing. I survived, although it's certainly not a noise I would willingly expose myself to, but hey, one day one of those stupid things might save our lives.

Yeah, what makes it worse is just the pure high tone. Wish there was an option for a more pleasing sound. Did you suffer any aftereffects as a result of your exposures?

My tinnitus seemed louder for a few days after the second exposure, but as of present, it is back to its old volume.

Sounds like how I feel today. I'm thinking how can I have this bad luck?

I had some idiot truck enthusiast honk his air horn at me while I was on the sidewalk yesterday. I'm with you all. It's like bad luck is rubbing salt in the wound. The way I got tinnitus was odd anyhow, from a mild concussion. I went from silence and my ears feeling great to 24/7 tinnitus just like that from another stroke of odd/bad luck that should not have happened. Crazy how the shortest seconds can change us so much.

The worst part is that for anyone with a certain hearing loss, their ear muscles don't trigger the stapedius reflex, which would take the edge off by 20 dB.

The thing is no matter how careful you are, there will always be some loud noise that will unexpectedly catch you out.
