Chit Chat and All That...

Yeah, there is a lot of social pressure.

My wife is amazed that I have never broken and given in to the pressure and started drinking. But I don't actually find it that hard; in fact I don't find it hard at all. Plus, seeing so many drunks and the way drinking has shortened their lives and caused them untold other problems is a stark reminder that I'm fine with not drinking.

Most people, I feel, are socialised into drinking. They don't at first like the taste, although they might like the effect, ie getting drunk. When I was in my teens I was into health and sports and the taste of alcohol did nothing for me, so I never acquired the taste for it, and that has lasted until this day. Ultimately I'm not denying myself something, I simply don't do it because its not for me.

 

I remember you saying about your son. So sorry for him and for you and your wife and anyone else affected by his loss. It's a life changer for sure. I don't know what I would do if I lost one of my boys.

I'm glad that you like it in Ireland, it's one of two or three other countries I would consider moving to if my plans to move to the UK don't work out. I had a great time travelling around the Irish coast in back of my van 25 years ago.

Life sure is strange.

Somehow you have managed to come through all of that with your lovely nature and great sense of humour intact.
That is what we have to do to survive isn’t it?

Yes Dave my friend. Years back and I mean 60 years back life seemed simple. Fast cars, lovely girls, and no care in the world. But life can slap very hard and effectively. With that and for the big reason I became atheist, the more I thought of what god is making this easy? Not a damn one. My humour has always traveled with me, it's a very important part of anyone's life.

I've suffered through it all and have held my dear wife close to me. Marion is the rock. The last 3 years it's been that effin tinnitus and sometimes it gets so bad I would rather bury my head in concrete.

But I won't. I have come 73 years and I still laugh.

Here is to your good health my friend and remember there is always a smile around the corner and we have beautiful wives who understand.

I get you. I live in an area where drinking is not acceptable by the locals. It's a religion thing. So when I visit family in other states I see two sides of it. The drinking society and the non drinkers. I know which one is more appealing to me.

 

Maybe this is a bit weird, but the main reason I don't drink is because of the smell. Growing up with sisters, the smell just reminds me of nail polish. That's all I can think about. Who wants to drink nail polish?

Also the taste is awful. The only alcoholic drink I've ever liked is a screwdriver, and not enough to make a habit out of it.

I'll stick to my coffee.

I did have a really expensive red wine waaaaaaaaay back when. So in 2019 I tried some red at my Grandma's birthday. Didn't taste good and it pissed off my tinnitus so bad. And I barely had any!!!!

I do like a good Apple Beer, but I've only had a sip since tinnitus.

The one time I got drunk with tinnitus I said never again. (Long story my friend tried a wiccan "spell" to cure my tinnitus.)

Well I won't tell the long one. Just a bit more details. I know I've posted on Tinnitus Talk about it before, but I'm too lazy to find it, and copy and paste.

Anywho. A Wiccan friend wanted to try out a several healing spells with her coven to heal my Tinnitus. At that point I had been praying and making deals with God. With no luck. So I thought why the heck not!?

Went to my favorite spot in the forest up in the mountains to perform the rituals. During a full moon of course. It was actually tons of fun. Until the moonshine came out. Holy hell. By the morning our moons where out and part of the night was fuzzy as hell. My tinnitus was louder than ever and my favorite bras vanished. Never to be seen again.

The only magical thing was one of girls somehow managed to sleep up in a tree all night. Stark naked! We went down to camp and had left her! Thank goodness a bear or a bow hunter didn't stumble across her. Full moon ritual/celebration indeed. It was a pine tree and let me tell you it was an adventure getting her down. Plus, she felt that for a long while. In many sensitive places. *coughs*

I use to tell it better. Alas, it was my last tipsy and naked woods adventure.

Even at that point I didn't drink often and normally hate getting more than tipsy. First time with a hangover, and that was a hell no for me.

 

Man, I would love to come on one of your naked, bra disappearing adventures with you all.

Mostly dancing in a circle and stuff. Only running naked through the forest to get back to base camp. Just so your friend knows.

 

When you mentioned moonshine, did you mean the moon is shining or was alcohol involved lol.

Carrie Fisher was amazing. I agree! I know that she used to get electroconvulsive therapy for her depression. I believe she's written about her experiences with ECT before. Trying to power through the last two chapters of The Good Thieves. I've just been so groggy lately. I'm surprised that I want to give What the Night Sings a try. Usually Holocaust stories hit too close to home.

I'm sorry that your tinnitus is so loud.

I liked your story about the pagan ritual in the forest. That made me smile.

 

If force healing was a real thing, we would all be healed by now, nuff said.

 

I finished the penultimate chapter of The Good Thieves. Tomorrow I'll finish the book. I'm glad that I'm continuing to read even when tinnitus makes it rough. Having the TV on for background noise helped me tonight.

Valerian root is good at doing what it's supposed to do. I'm tired. =P

The book does go into her electroconvulsive therapy. Good luck! I'm still not reading like a should. I feel you on the groggy I've had sleeping issues again. (Not because of the tinnitus). Holocaust books always make me so emotional.
