      Hi Jay M,
What's the prescription meant to target? There are plenty of OTC allergy meds to choose from.

My toddler contracted a viral skin infection called molluscum contagiosum. My concern is that this oral liquid CIMETIDINE is prescribed for up to 8 weeks.

Find neem and turmeric pills available in lots on online stores.
Make paste and apply to the affected area and also u can give it to the kid. Start with one pill a day and slowly increase to 3 pills a day, until the symptoms reduce.

Neem and turmeric have been used in india for a couple of thousands of years. It is very safe. It shouldn't cost more than few dollars.

Western medications are use less against Viral infection.

Is it to stop the itching? There don't seem to actually be any treatments for the illness beyond not scratching and letting it resolve. If that's the case you could ask your doctor for an alternative anti-histamine.
