Hey everyone! I’m thinking of pulling out my clarinet and playing it again after a few months since I graduated from college. I’ll wear earplugs and/or earmuffs depending on how loud I play. Does this seem like a safe noise level to you all?

The sound level of clarinet is 86-114 decibels. With earplugs, I'm sure it's fine.

Everything depends on whether you feel bad afterwards. If you get a spike, or if the sound feels too loud, then it would make sense to comply with the signals given to you by your body and to stop playing the clarinet. You might want to only play it for a couple of minutes the first few times, and then (assuming you are ok afterwards) gradually increase the time.

Thanks! I played it for about 10 min yesterday quietly with earplugs, and it was just fine. Honestly it’s the same level as talking or singing with earplugs in. It’s mostly bone conduction when you have them in, and I was playing clarinet earlier this year when I had ear troubles and was doing just fine. I think I just was a little overanxious about pulling it out again after a few months.
