      Hey everyone;

      Yesterday I woke up with a clogged ear and pain. It progressively got worse throughout the day and the clogged feeling made my hearing feel muffled. I’ve never had an ear infection before, but I assume this is one because of the symptoms and because I'm just coming off the flu.

      I saw a GP this morning but he looked in my left ear and said he couldn’t diagnose me with anything because I had wax and insisted I remove it first. I’m confused as to how I could’ve built up so much wax because I had my wax manually removed less than six months ago.

      Also, the only method of removal he offered was ear wash, which I looked up and is actually not supposed to even be used if someone has an infection.

      Can earwax prevent a GP from being able to diagnose an ear infection? What should I do to remove the wax?

      Thanks!

      Do as he says, but don't syringe. You can request wax be removed the traditional way at another audiology center.
