My left ear has whistling when i hear people speak or when i speak myself it whistles as well.
Yesterday i noticed when i was chewing food i could hear crackling in my left ear. I tried moving just my jaw left and right and the crackling is there also.

Can anyone give me insight to theae symptoms please. My anxiety levels have just gone up.

Flexi the crackling might just be sinus issues, do not worry too much. I used a neti pot yesterday and now my ears are cracking every time I swallow, very annoying. Give it some time, chew some gum, drink water, do a head sauna and put some drops of peppermint or tea tree essential oils and breathe them. Might help relieve. I notice that when I do the valsava maneuver the cracking is gone for a lil while. Super annoying I know, but should go away. I have in both ears, damn neti pot!! hugs, and don't stress.

It might also be euchastian tube dysfunction, it sounds serious but it's really just one of those annoying ailments! The symptoms include crackling and popping in the ear, a feeling of fullness and of course tinnitus! Look it up on the internet and speak to your doctor about it, it's basically a problem with the tubes connecting your nose and ears! I have it and it's very annoying but can be managed and treated!

When you say managed and treated, you mean the T as well? Like, if you handle the ETD problems, the ringing goes right along with it?

I'm only in the early stages of treating my ETD, the doctors have been fairly vague in saying that the T should go along with the ETD but that it may take slightly longer for the T to go, some say it might take up to 6 months!

    7. @Maddy how are you treating it?

Maddy, please keep us posted. What did your doctors tell you about ETD and T? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

@Street Spirit I've been given a steroid nasal to help reduce inflammation in the euchastian tubes and to help the fluid move out of the tubes! But the doctor has said it can take up to a month before I start to notice any real difference or improvement!

@Littlebailey my doctor seemed to know very little about the link between ETD and T except that there is one! They said that if the T remains after a month of using the steroid nasal spray then I will be referred to an ear specialist who will know more!

Hi Maddy, how was your etd diagnosed? Did you have typmanomotry? My ears cracle pop every time I swallow too. Started before the t. My ent is not thinking I have etd but that my ears have always popped but not noticed before . I know they didn't do that before. Anyway, they said tmp testing let's them know about e tubes and my test was ok.

Hey Penelope, my doctor only really looked into both my ears using those things with the light on the end, so i assume she was making the diagnose based on my description of symptoms. I think i'm going to wait until I have finished the steroid nasal spray and if the T and popping/crackling are still continuing then I am going to insist on a referral to a ear specialist!

@demi the ears are such a complicated things! The crackling and popping is almost as annoying as the T! Did your T start as a result of noise?

Yeah I initially got T back in December 2012, and then November 2013 I went to a concert and T spiked a lot - and I got the crackling/popping and Hyperacusis!

Ahh I see, how old are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm 17 and find that with my T I avoid certain situations that I'd love to go to as I worry about worsening my T!

23, I definitely regret thinking I'd be able to go to concerts again! Take care of your ears! Was your T brought on by noise?

at the moment the doctors are saying that it was brought on by ETD or an infection in the middle ear! My friends mum has bought us tickets for a concert in October, I don't know whether to go and wear ear plugs or not go at all?

When I mentioned the crackling noise/ sensation to the ENT, she said it was air & it was nothing to be concerned about, mind it was the worst appointment I've had & actual doubt she was connected to the ENT dept!!
