      Hey Guys,

Quick question, how loud/bad would it be to be next to a dump truck while the guys threw in a basket full of glass bottles? I was a couple of meters next to the guy who threw it in..

It felt very loud, but than again, everything feels loud.. It was only a short exposure, but it was also at the side where my T is the loudest.

      I was just recovering... :'(

Last week, a car horn blasted into my left ear as my earplug loosened and fell out. My T is fairly stable but after that incident, it spiked the whole morning before settling down to baseline.

Ride it out first, see what happens.

      Thanks already for the comments.
Do you think people suffering with T (recent or not) have a lower tolerance for sound? But mainly subjective?
Or does sound that other people couldn't hurt, possibly hurt us? I can't find a straight answer..

Is there also a way to figure out your ears got extra damage? Except for a really loud peak?
My T is quit mild now, but might be a bit louder than before, not sure. This is what really gets to me, you can't know if it did any damage, unless it did A LOT of damage..

Either way, I send a mail to the waste-company asking for testresults (if they have any) of the noise.

Does anyone have any numbers on the loudness of these things? I've been looking around like a crazy person.

      Here is what you need:
      http://www.wrap.org.uk/sites/files/wrap/Noise Report REP-1003290-BJ-250712 (Final).pdf

"Noise exposure in glass collections for recycling. Workers carrying out collections of glass for recycling can be exposed to high levels of noise. This report provides information to employers and client authorities on the noise levels experienced by waste collection operatives on a variety of collection systems."

The actual measurements results start somewhere after page 23.

Thanks! I suppose the maximum is 120 db? And thats for the guy throwing the stuff in. So I got maximum 110 db for less than a second I hope/guess.

Out of your experience, is that a level that could be damaging?

To be honest with you, I'd say your current thought process is more damaging. Try not to worry about every noise you encounter because there will be many many more during your lifetime.

Hey Ed, I think you are right.
It's just difficult because I don't know wether something does any damage or not..

I know exactly how you feel, I've been there. It's takes time to regain control, so go easy on yourself and try not to overthink it. Working yourself up whenever you hear a loud bang just doesn't help, but it's hard not to react and I understand that.

Looking up decibel ratings certainly won't help you though; you're just digging a deeper hole for yourself.

Try and switch your thoughts off, relax, and watch a movie or something.

I would say probably not, unless you were exposed to it constantly for longer. I have also in the past been rudely surprised by garbage trucks when they were loading glass bins. It's pretty loud for sure.
