      Hi all

I have tinnitus in my right ear with high pitched hearing loss.

Despite doing a tympanometry test and being told there is no fluid in my ear, everytime I use headphones i feel fluid in the ear and tinnitus is louder. The vibrations are possibly loosening the fluid so that it moves about...

I had a severe respiratory infection for 2 months in 2012 and didn't go to the doctors because I thought it would pass. Well it finally did and a month later the T started.

Is there a chance the tympanometry test can be incorrect? If so how else can they check for middle ear fluid, Ive had an MRI too (all clear)

I have severe rhinitis that has not been addressed. Nose always blocked, tonsil stones on right tonsil despite perfect oral hygiene.

Also when I tap under my right ear, its like I'm beating my ear drum. Thats where the tonsillar lymph node is.

You need antihistamines and a sinus nasil spray to clear your tubes..and maybe antibiotics.
It's your sinuses causing your tinnitus to spike as the mucous will go in your eustation tubes.
      Love glynis x

      thanks for your reply, Glynis.

I have just been prescribed a nasal spray. I will get antihistamines. Give it a couple of weeks and see if it has an affect on my tinnitus.

Then Im looking to be referred for a endoscopy so they can access the function of my eustachian tube and look to see if my Sinuses are swollen.

If I swallow, the click from my right ear is much louder than my left.
Trouble travelling on the tube, right side of face/ear feels under immense pressure.
Neti-Pot always lead to blocked tube
If I swim, I will get an infection. Ear, nose, everything blocked
Tinnitus also louder when I yawn.

Maybe if I solve my mucus and ETD problem, the tinnitus will start to fade.

      I doubt it.
When I had my onset of otosclerosis, I was reporting it to the doctor as my feeling fluid in my ear. It was clearly not fluid, but it did feel like it to me.

They can also look with an otoscope. The ear drum is not completely opaque, so you can generally tell if there is fluid behind it.

I see thats good info. I need to have it investigated more because theres a problem with my eustachian tube.

How did they diagnose the otosclerosis? If MRI mine came back all clear.

It's through a combination of clues:
      1. Weber & Rinne tests
      2. audiograms (presence of air-bone gap)
      3. CT scan (radiolucencies showing focus)
Finally it's confirmed via surgery of course.

Oh yeah I forgot about that one indeed. That was the first missed clue in my diagnosis: I did present with sensorineural losses originally (no air bone gap), but I had an absent reflex on one side.

Another clue that it is fluid is when I put my head between my knees then put my head up again, I can feel and hear swooshing in my ear. Also alot of cracking every when I swallow in the affected ear. My only hope it that something will show up in a endoscope of my sinuses that theres an obstruction at my eustachian tube opening. Or mucus in ET visible.

Ive had this for years. But I'm now just using things to treat my allergies and nasal congestion. We'll see. Its already lower.

Didn't use for two months, just used them the other day because I get so much more work done on the computer, felt the fluid soon after and ear was sensitive t sound even on windows volume 6.

      Will stop again unfortunately.

@Rafaa any news from the endoscopy? I have a feeling my left ET is blocked as well, tympanometry & MRI are clear. I have cracking sound especially when it gets colder. When I swallow I don't hear my left tube opening like the right. I have deviated nasal septum. Am thinking about asking for an endoscopy, last time I asked the doc he told me they don't do it for the ear, it's too small apparently!

      No not yet

When you say hear you left tube opening? Is it normal to hear your tube opening? If so what sound is it? Mine is two quick crackles .

I haven't had the endoscopy yet, they should look at the opening of the ET with the endoscopy.

It is a cracking/clicking sound. It could also be like 2 very quick crackling sounds I suppose... In fact my left tube can open, it just requires a lot more blow... the right opens very quickly. Am thinking it could be it is still inflamed/swollen but after 2 months and half that seems maybe too long?

@DimitarIV Would you care to explain where you read that? I believe the crackling is TTS and is psychosomatic.

May I ask what medications did you use for your sinus?

I have patulous eustachian tube so I stopped using sinus medications. Id suggest getting an endoscopy then go from there.

I was using avamys and antihistamine which make it worse.

@Rafaa I just joined the forum to talk to you. I too have a lot of the PET symptoms you describe. I read that as of late, you have been posting about MEM. Do you still have PET?
