Hi folks I am a 40 year old ex international athlete who got mild tinnitus on and off after firing rifles in military career. I now own a geo drilling company and getting too close to the action the last year I noticed my hearing suddenly dropped a threshold 3 months ago. I took 3 weeks off to see ENT for all the tests, told only 5 % hearing loss right ear, 1 % left, mild hyperacusis right ear, mild tinnitus constant (didn't care then) but all scans okay.

Went back to nightshifts with earplugs no probs but I guess the acusis made things sound louder and tinnitus suddenly jumped to high pitched whistle in right ear, mostly only noticeable at night. I quit site on the 3rd day and went back to the ENT who said to avoid loud noises for ever.

Not after cures or treatments, however wondered what I might be doing wrong, as the sound has changed a couple times again in the last 2 months. High pitched whine is less but now changes tones, changes ears and also mixes in with general hissing behind the head.

I am currently working from home and apart from on occasional screaming toddler things are quiet. I do notice however tinnitus reacts to different things. With the climate control humming or working in front of the computer the hissing comes on then, so I wonder if this is what created it and now it has stuck.

Hello! Sorry we didnt reply:( Welcome on board! Do you have different tinnitus in front of computers and climate control and then it goes back to normal when you do smth else? In some surroundings I also notice it more but it has come from electrical devices which give a hum which sounds like my Tinnitus. Some theories suggest that there could be a connection between electrical devices and T. Look around here n this forum and you will find more information:)

Wow, an international athlete, were you in the Olympics? A Golfer,
Anyway, no secret handshake here, just a bunch of good people with the same affliction in life, - Tinnitus.

I think its human nature to always expect a result from a given action. A cause and effect, sort of thing.
I bet all of us, on a personal level look for reasons why this we have this plague. Hearing loss, drugs, maybe the body just gave out. They say Tinnitus is a symptom rather than a disease. Even the doctors don't seem to have the answers. And yes, I find different environments lead to increased sense of awareness. I hope you can cope, I take pills to help me sleep.

Thanks for sharing your introduction and Welcome to a great forum. I find it supportive and informative. People here know what it is, because they have it too. I'm sorry you got this T thing. I hope you get better. Maybe it's related to other health issues, like stress. I don't have answers. Have a great day.
