I had my teeth cleaned recently, took NAC, and brought earmuffs, although I had to take them off since I couldn't turn my head in the chair. I made sure they didn't use ultrasonic equipment.

I apparently have a couple of small cavities, which the dentist states should be addressed. Due to the earmuff issue, I plan to wear earplugs and think it is better to have some hearing protection despite the "occlusion" effect.

I need to know what kind of drugs I can ask the dentist to prescribe me before the procedure even starts to help protect myself. I was thinking of Prednisone since that seems to be a go-to. I already explained my issue to him that I have tinnitus from acoustic trauma. I want to present information to him about obtaining a small prescription. The worst they can say is no; I have never heard of anyone abusing Prednisone... Do you think it's a good idea? What dosage/mg should I ask for?

You could consider laser - no need for drugs.

Unknown. Maybe stress and acoustic trauma
Did I hear that the laser machine itself makes a very high-pitched noise? I guess you can use earplugs since there wouldn´t be an occlusion effect.

I don't know if earplugs are the best choice because a drill makes vibrations.

      Good day.

I was just wondering if you went through with the laser when you did your dental work. If so, how was it? I need to fill in some cavities as well.
What about noise-cancelling headphones, or would that be the same thing?
How did your appointment go? I hope everything went well.

Yes, I've used laser to revise a root canal. I had a heavily filled tooth, that needed a revision of a broken filling.

It wasn't loud at all, only some zap sounds. I just wore earplugs. There was no pain - so no need for drugs.

      Hi Deb,

Thank you for recommending this idea! My dentist, who I was planning on seeing, balked at my request for Prednisone. So, I plan to find a dentist who can perhaps use a laser.
