Hello everyone,

I have a flight coming up tomorrow that I must go on, and I have hyperacusis and ETD which complicates things. I am going to take some Sudafed, NAC, and anti-anxiety medication to calm my nerves before the flight. Might even use some Flonase before the flight as well. It is a short 1 hr 30 min flight.

I plan on sitting as close to the plane as possible and using EarPlanes during ascent and descent and maybe throughout the whole flight. I might even change to regular Mack's earplugs and a set of headphones (no music) once ascent is completed.

Not sure what more I can do to prepare. Anyone have any suggestions? Really don't want a setback. I'm open to anything.

Sorry if formatting is messed up, I typed this on my phone.

Hi,

EarPlanes plus earmuffs for takeoff and landing.

You can use noise cancelling headphones during the flight if you need them.

I wouldn't use foam earplugs that completely block the ears during takeoff and landing as you may cause problems with release of pressure whilst ascending and descending.

I managed three takeoffs and landings in the same day using this method, with only a slight tinnitus spike lasting a few days. Try and sit as near to the front of the plane as possible.

As @Mister Muso said, earplugs would be a bad idea for equalisation reasons during ascent and landing. During the cruise stage ear plugs should be ok.

I've only had to take one flight since getting hyperacusis. I made sure to take a decongestant before the flight and I also used a corticosteroid nasal spray about half an hour before landing to make sure I didn't have any equalisation issues on the way down. I had earmuffs on for pretty much the whole flight.

The most important thing is to avoid barotrauma at all costs.
