Hello, Everyone!

Just wanted to say, I appreciate all of the support that this forum provides! I was stopping in with a quick question about habituation. My T stared a little over 5 weeks ago after what I believe was an acoustic trauma followed by extreme stress brought on by Prednisone. About a week into it, I started to get some noises in my right ear as well. Sounded kind of like a broken speaker, but only noticeable with earplugs. This eventually seemed to fade. I was also already habituating to the sound in my left ear.

Two weeks later, I had a co-worker sneeze loudly within a few feet of my right ear. Got on a second course of Prednisone, but by the end of it, I noticed a louder steady ring in my right ear accompanying the broken speaker sound again. I've also developed some sensitivity to noise in my right ear and more extreme anxiety. The left ear ringing was much more noticeable as well.

What I want to know is, is it possible to habituate to so many different sounds? I at least use to take comfort in knowing that my right ear was fine, but I can't anymore. I used to be able to tone out the left ear, but now it seems like I can only focus on one or the other.

Thanks!

HI @Theater Ringing

You are new to tinnitus and as time goes on it is likely to improve. Habituation is possible even when experiencing multiple sounds. As I've said you're in the early stages and the multiple sounds are likely to reduce to one in time and could eventually go away or reduce to a very low level. I advise you not to use headphones even at low volume. Please click on the links below and read my articles on tinnitus. Try to read them in full and not skim through them.

All the best
Michael
