      Hello everyone,

I have tinnitus and hyperacusis since last year.

Lately the hyperacusis was getting better.

Yesterday I was walking up the stairs when the smoke alarm went off right in front of me.

I was in the hallway so it was extra loud.

I covered my ears as quick as I could.

I had to walk under it because it was the fastest way out.

I have been focusing on this and the tinnitus seems aggravated and the sensitivity is up. The ceiling is kinda low so when I went under it, I was about a foot away, I would say I was exposed for about 10 seconds, most of that with my hand covering my ears.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice helps.

What are my chances the spike is permanent?

its hard to say since there are too many variables. Give it 2 weeks and let us know how it is then. I had a bad spike a few months ago, a window slammed 6 inches from me. It was fine after 2 weeks.

I disconnected my smoke alarm and door bell at home. I may burn up in a fiery flame one day but at least my anxiety about the noise is down :rockingbanana:

How bad is your hyperacusis? Fire alarms can give some nasty spikes but I've recovered from them in the past with mild H. Smoke alarms are usually not as loud.
