Welcome to TT, Bob. I would suggest that you write a little about yourself, how you got tinnitus (if you know), how long you've had your symptoms, any tests you might have had, etc. There is no known cure for the majority of cases, but many people have had it just go away on on it's own. For others, it may become lower in volume, and if it sticks around, the majority of people with are able to adapt and habituate to it, to the point of not even noticing it most, if not all, of the time.

HI @Robert Grant

You have had tinnitus for quite a while and as it's getting louder, there is usually a reason for this and you should make an appointment to be seen at ENT for tests. Two things usually cause tinnitus although you say the cause of yours is unknown. The most common cause is exposure to loud noise. Typically listening to music through headphones at high volume levels or going to places where loud music is played. Concerts and clubs. If you were doing any of these things prior to your tinnitus onset back in 2015, exposure to loud noise is probably responsible.

Although you haven't said, I will assume that your tinnitus has recently got worse perhaps within the last 3 months? If this is the case and your tinnitus is noise induced. Have you been listening to music though headphones or playing computer games using them? Or going to concerts 0r clubs regularly? If so, this is the likely cause of your tinnitus becoming louder.

The second thing that can cause tinnitus is an underlying medical problem that could be associated within your auditory system. There are different medical conditions that can affect the ear which can cause tinnitus and therefore it's important that you're seen at ENT for tests. Stress, anxiety and some medications can also cause tinnitus. For now please click on the links below and read my articles on tinnitus that you might find helpful. Try to read them in full and not skim through them. If your tinnitus was caused by loud noise I suggest that you do not use headphones even at low volume.

All the best
Michael

Any tricks for getting rid of this
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to change the sound of your T in the short run.

If you avoid loud (and even moderate, e.g., vacuum cleaner, hair dryer) noises, you will likely be able to prevent your T from getting worse.

The good news is that it is reasonable to expect that your tinnitus will eventually fade. Check out the studies on pages 1, 2, and 4 of
https://www.tinnitustalk.com/threads/spontaneous-recovery-stats-over-70-recover-3-studies.21441/

The bad news is that ears take forever to heal. Many people seem to report experiencing improvement within the first three months after the onset of T, but it might take six months or a year or two...

I see that you have had tinnitus, for almost 3 years. What is the reason, for your tinnitus? I am one of the most positive, people on this site and I don't think that your tinnitus will go away... but it could possibly get lower volume wise. Just hang in there :)

I dont think anyone's T can go away. I am sure mine will never go. Hoping it will lower volume wise and then i can move on.
