Hy! So I don't usually go out a a lot. 10 days ago we went out to a Night Club and danced near the speaker for 2 hours, I also had drunk. My right ear (which was near the speaker) felt muffled for 2 days and then the ringing started.

It is still there but it doesn't bother me as the first days, since this is my first incident I have high hopes that i will recover in time. I'm trying to sleep, relax and take things slow.

My tinnitus is mild and is mostly located in the left ear, sounds like an old tube tv in mute. (Strange, since the right ear was next to the speaker, as far I can recall)

My only issue is that the impacted ear (Right) feels a little bit muffled yet, or so I think. Is this normal? Can I expect this ear to recover or the brain to readjust itself? For example, if you are 6 metres away talking to me, your voice seems to come 0,5 metres to the left of your position, it is highly annoying.

Sorry for my bad grammar, my main language is Spanish.

      Hello
I have similar situation like yours.I got tinnitus after party but not the same day after party, it was 4 days after that but I was exposed to loud music in my car and at myfriends home in the next 3 days after that party ( not so loud like at the party but still .. ) . It was 3 months and 2 weeks ago when my tinnitus started and I still cannot back to normal. You must go do doctor to use audiogram to see if your hearing is damaged and you need to explain the situation to your doctor.Im new here and I dont know so many things altough I have reed many posts. There are some pills that help but everything depends from 1 person to another.I have used gingo bilboa but I dont think that kind of pills helped me.Instead I think that betahistine offers little more and helps only a little but still i think that from them I've got some little relief. Its too early to tell if you will have chronic tinnitus or you will be normal as before. What can I tell you is that you need to avoid loud noise at disco and night clubs at all costs. In the next weeks try to avoud these kind of things and see what will doctors tell you.

I already had tinnitus and in college went to a few frat parties and danced by the speakers. It did make my tinnitus worst. In your situation, only time will tell. Wait it out and see how you feel. Possibly go see an ear dr and see what they say. That low noise/low hiss can get much louder and more annoying of you don't protect your ears...

      Take care...

      Thanks for the replies!

I forgot to say i went to an ENT 2 days ago and said i had T, he gave me a shot of Corticoids and told me to take 2 pills of Ginko Biloba a day, and wait to see how it develops.

I had otitis twice when i was a kid, never had any form of T before, i used headphones once or twice a week. Maybe i should also add magnesium pills?

You should try different things beacuse the cure for tinnitus depends of the person.Avoid headphones beacuse they are so bad for ears, my friend got tinnitus beacuse he was using speakers almost every second day. That doesnt mean you will have the same problem but avoid them in the next period.Try betahistine too beacuse in researches they have some impact on ringing while some other like gingo have almost no effect. I dont know really why every doctor recommend ginko but they dont do harm so you should try them its no problem. Hope you get well .

Yeah, thankfully i feel like my T is not that bad, or has been going down. Been avoiding Coffee, and stress, sleeping well. Smoking a bit more but it helps me calm down.

I'm only worried that my impacted ear still feels a little bit muffled and don't know if this is normal after 10 days, i feel like i just want it to *pop*.

Thank god for this forum BTW, been helpfull during the acute stage.

It happens very frequently. For weeks or months after acoustic trauma, then it usually* goes away.

      * I've never heard about a case where it didn't :)

Take care and protect your ears in the future

UPDATE: So, it's been a rough week. Had trouble sleeping, tought it would ruin my life. Now i'm more relaxed. I still hear it and bothers me a little bit. Can't tell if it has been going down.

I for sure regained some hearing in the main affected ear, it's still not 100% but it's only been 2 weeks. Hyperacusia seems to have lowered also. Even that i still think i have perfect hearing range.

My loving girlfriend and friends were great support, they carried me thru sleepless nights.

Going on vacation to USA's West Coast next week: LA, San Diego, San francisco. Should i be worried about going around the city becouse of the noise? I don't plan to go to clubs and wear plugs at theme park's rollercoasters and rides, i'm asking about cruising around the city.

With my H I find it hard to be in city noise. A motorcycle that drives by can straight up ruin my day. So I'd suggest bringing your plugs with you, given that you're on vacation you wouldn't want to risk anything that might upset you.

Update: 15 days in, my T felt low al thru the day, i could actully get work done as usual. No signs of Hyperacusia. Good sign? Let's hope! My hearing not 100% on main affected ear, at this point i think the damage might permanent, but as people said, ear fullness can take while to go down so... Will update following days.

Update: 18 days in. Went to take an Audiometry, audiologist said i had a normal hearing, and no measurable hearing loss so thats a relief, said that my feeling of partial fullness should eventualy resolve.

      This is my Test:

      Archivo_000.jpg

. T is still present. Bought some noise reducing plugs for the trip, mainly to use on airplanes and theme parks.

Is it a good idea to use them from time to time to try to habituate to the buzzing? Maybe it's a good way recover? Will try. I'm using them at work for a few hours.

What's the longest time you've heard of for it to go away, @maltese? I still have ear fullness seven months after an acoustic trauma, and it's really annoying. It probably bothers me more than the T, to be honest. I really hope it will go away eventually.

I've read about people who had it for many months, but I don't remember exact numbers...

I still occasionally get it, but to lesser extent than before. I got T 22/10/2016 so..

Did it just suddenly go away for you, or was it a gradual process? Can you remember how long it took? I'm going back to the ENT for my six-month follow-up soon, and I'm just trying to decide how much effort I should put into convincing him to look for physical problems inside my ear. Last time I went, he took a quick look inside my ears, nose, and throat, and said that he couldn't see anything physically wrong.

It was really bad for 2-4 months and then it slowly improved.

I honestly don't know what advice to give you. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful l.

@Santiago Biagi If you're having trouble sleeping, I highly recommend this pillow. It made a huge difference in my ability to sleep through the night. Especially in the beginning. http://www.soundpillow.com/

Update 1 month and 1 week: Hyperacusia is gone. No ear fullness, but even if my hearing test went reasonably well i suspect hidden hearing loss on my right ear (main affected ear) since my binaural sound location isn't 100% on that side. Tinnitus seems lower this days, or i don't notice it that much unless i'm on my quiet room trying to get some sleep, there it bothers me, i have 2 distinct sounds in each ear. May be habituation or actual lowering of the volume. Still, i'm 1 month in so thing might improve further.

Cannot stop smoking, but cut sugar, salt and reduced stress. Maybe that helps.

1 month 2 weeks: Realized i had some sort of reactive T on left ear, like whining up when listening moderately high sounds. Today after a good 10 hour sleep i don't hear it, even as i plug my ears it's just a faint ringing. T seems more present on main affected ear (Right). But that is a changing low HZ sound that i only hear when on silence on plugging ears.

Have ups and downs, i sure do miss silence ATM, but that doesn't define me. I am who i am becouse of what it do.

I no longer take drugs to induce sleeping nor any kind of supplement other than a full vitamin supplement. Sleep like a log never wake up. Hearing a little lower on right ear doesn't bother me anymore, when i realized the fullness was the slight hidden hearing loss i forgot about it. Sure if i check i notice it, but the brain will forget about it in time.

This week i have appointment with my ENT to update him and do another evaluation, and also a Dentist to check for TMJ. Since i find my body tense all the time including my jaw. (Maybe becouse of anxiety). Also my regular doctor to do a complete test of my health, who knows.

      Life is not over!

A month and a half. Not feeling much improvement. Anxiety of the roof. My T is now a hiss on left ear and Morse Code like soft ringing on right ear. I only hear the left one on a moderately loud enviroment. No signs of reactive T anymore so thats good. Ear fullness comes and goes, hearing not 100% on right ear still.

Im in a really dark place. I just want silence. Have so much left to do in my life...

Turns out i had swelling, inflamation and infection in right ear, External Otitis, right ear today felt more plugged than ever. Don't know how long that's been going, never felt pain. In 7 days it should resolve and maybe my hearing will return? I'm taking antibiotics drops to ear.

I recently recalled that i actually had internal otitis in right ear with some minor hearing loss when i was young and that might explain the 10db gap in lower frequencies between ears.

T maybe same volume, didn't noticed it today, maybe that's becouse morse code moved to left ear. Such a strange condition that is Tinnitus...

Actually its otitis media. Might explain muffled hearing still. Im on non ototoxic antibiotics. Also said my eardrum is slighly damaged so i should let i heal and dont touch my ear, dont know how that happend.

Just smoking 1 or two cigs a day to prevent irritation.

T still the same more o less.

Sorry if update too often, feels good just to vent.

Its good to write down and keep track of how you feel. Try not to let the lack of silence freak you out, if it helps you never had total silence before tinnitus. You had your heartbeat, breathing, traffic etc.. All sorts of sounds you're habituated to. Tinnitus will just become another one of those. The best thing you can do is get on with life and do the things you enjoy. In time you wont notice it so much.
