Hi everyone,
I developed T while trying a new dental appliance for sleep apnea and grinding - I slept better but every morning I woke up with my jaw out of alignment and a very sore right ear. My dentist also gave me something he called a "biscuit" which is essentially an impression of what your bite should be that you're meant to use to bring your jaw back to normal position. My jaw was so far forward that using this "biscuit" was almost impossible no matter how hard I tried. Doing it was extremely painful. I persisted with the device for a few weeks because I was told by the dentist that it would take some getting used to.
At some point during this time I developed Tinnitus. I immediately stopped using it, realizing I'd probably done some damage and went back to the dentist.
The dentist then decided after examining me and the device that it was the wrong device for me or it was faulty or whatever and said he would arrange for another type to be made. Also, in relation to Tinnitus, said it's unlikely that the device could have caused this. I don't believe that obviously.
It's been about 3 weeks now since I've used the device and my jaw is feeling better although every morning I have some discomfort in my right ear and my bite doesn't feel quite right. My T needless to say is worse than ever, it's disrupting my life terribly and affecting my sleep. I have resorted to taking sleeping pills that only work for a few hours it seems.
I have already seen an ENT that was most unhelpful and an Audiologist that confirmed some mild hearing loss in my right ear. I am also having specialized physiotherapy on my neck, jaw and even in my mouth but I'm starting to think it's making it worse. Back to another ENT this morning. I'm just hoping there's no permanent damage. Next step will be to fine a specialist dentist to have a look at my TMJ.
Anyone else with similar story and if so, how's it all going?
