There is a audiology place here in Hawaii that offers those hearing aid type maskers....which cancel out the sound frequency of your tinnitus. Are those bad? Aren't you supposed to habituate to tinnitus? Or am I missing something?

thx

Whatever works, to get you to live your life. if you can cope and move on without maskers..great. If you need maskers to move forward, then use it. Some need maskers to cope and move forward. My tinnitus is very loud and I use nothing.

HI @Barry33

Please click on the links below to find out more information about white noise generators (maskers). They are not supposed to cancel out the tinnitus or mask it. They are specialist devices and if you are new to tinnitus, I don't advise you to use them yet. Ideally, a person should be under the care of a Hearing Therapist or Audiologist when using them.

If some gets hearing loss corrected with hearing aids, sometimes that will "get rid" of the tinnitus when you wear them. I would advise something with a very high bandwidth range such as Signia 7nx which has 12khz. It has some built in masking stuff, tinnitus notch therapy built in and it can directly link to an iPhone too. Unfortunately, they are expensive. :(

I may end up trying them though after this last bad episode with tinnitus that I have had.... my hearing aid guy said he would give me a no money down trial.

As mentioned, nothing cancels out the sound frequency of your tinnitus, but there are certainly masking sounds that may match your particular tone and help reduce your concentration on it. For me, it's the sound of crickets. Sound Oasis offers several sound machines as well as a website where you can purchase and download mp3s of similar sounds.

The idea of maskers is that they give your brain something else to think about. the volume isnt meant to be set so high that it completely covers your t. you want noise in the background to listen to so that your brain shifts away from listening to your new found friend. its not bad. TRT uses in ear maskers, along with the cognitive mind therapy, and mindfuless techniques to aid habituation.
