I am a little surprised at how rarely the problem of tinnitus and professional activity is made the subject here.

It is absolutely necessary for the economic existence to function in professional life. And that's a big problem with serious tinnitus.

What should and can be done if a break of e.g. eight weeks has not brought any real improvement?

@Tinniger There was a poll at one point that asked if people had ever called in sick to work because of tinnitus. I personally haven't, but tinnitus does affect my work. I'm a nurse which means shift work. I'm fine MOST of the time at work because I'm distracted, there is tons of noise and I don't hear my tinnitus. It's when I have to work night shifts that it becomes an issue. The sleep deprivation makes it worse and it's obviously a lot quieter at night. I've thought about getting a doctors note to omit me from working night shifts but I really only have to work about one per month so I've also thought that it's not worth the fuss.

My ENT was convinced that stress from my profession made my tinnitus worse. I disagreed but after 2 years decided to retire. Made no difference at all. No better no worse.

I still don't understand how little the topic of "profession" is dealt with here. As long as you can manage your 40h week, tinnitus is only a side stage. It only becomes really relevant when you are more or less unable to work.
      Or am I wrong?

Being busy is the best way to forget T

A job would be a good way to get busy

Unless you have noise damage and the job involves noise

When T came into the picture I was like how am I going to work but I did. At first I was going to ask for leave that was my plan. Well I am middle worker and my office is open floor and 30 to the floor. Now what never bothered me before now made me crazy, due to copier sounds telephone/cell phone, I powered thru everyday. I took breaks by taking walks around my building, and I only did what I knew, I was a zombie. On my desk I have two fans and a radio for masking. After 4 months I was better and now even better.

I really wonder do people hear their tinnitus when working? Tinnitus always distracts me from focusing on something. I am really sad. I am afraid that I can't do any job after graduation.

I want to work but how when the f**** t noise is so loud and high pitched?!?

The problem is you are forced to do whatever work on their time unless you are self employed and/or you work at home.

No, wait...the problem is trying to work at all.

Yes I hear it all the time. I am much less efficient than I was but still carry on for now. You will hopefully get used to it or it will calm down.

For me work can be a distraction. At first I had to go on FMLA because I could not function at all but slowly I integrated into my normal work.
