So, hey. I'm Paula, a mumble yr old female from NC USA. I am a book writing lesbian crip (nutshell version). I much prefer dogs to cats (have three of one and two of the other) and live in a rural area outside of Asheville.
I've always (at least it seems as if it has always happened) heard noises. Roaring like a river or modulating. Sometimes I would get hit by a sudden high pitched noise that I would almost drop from it. It would ease up in intensity but I'd hear it for anywhere from several hours to days. Sometimes the roar sounds like the radio. Anywhere from NFL announcers to blue grass to whatever. Sometimes it is in tune with my heartbeat but only if I stand up too fast or am over-exerting. Usually it is just a roar.
Starting about two weeks ago, the roar changed to a high pitch and hasn't let up. Driving. Me. Nuts. It just won't stop.
Went to GP because I also had pressure on the ears and a lot of pain in the left one and was dizzy (which was steadily getting worse). As usual, I had a lot of wax in there which they cleaned out. Ironically it was the right ear drum that showed signs of inner ear infection while the left one appeared fine. The cleaning didn't change anything but I'm on an antibiotic as she gave me meclizine for the dizziness.
I have a complicated medical history (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, hypertension, migraines, hypothyroid, diabetes 2, blah blah) and take a ton of medication. She (the doc) recently added Crestor and added another med for hypertension to help with heart issues. Because of the extra BP med, I've had several sudden drops in BP so she has cut that in half for now. This makes the dizziness hard to differentiate (is it this or that??). If BP is fine, I take the meclizine. I've read that some statins like Crestor can cause tinnitis but the jury is still out if Crestor is one of them. If the sound hasn't stopped by the time I'm done with the antibiotic, I'll stop that med and see what happens.
We briefly discussed Meniere's but I don't want any more alphabet soup on my illness card.
What else? Oh, thank you thank you thankyouamilliontimes thank you for the sound files! I discovered last night, listening to them, that the "pink" noise almost completely masks the tone. I almost cried when I first heard it. Brown comes close but then I tried pink (my least fave color) and wow.
