I use ear protection but it still sounds kind of loud. Would it make my tinnitus worse if i rest through the day and weekends?

Yeah part of a job. I do it for 2 to 3 hours a day, 5 days a week with protection. I dont really feel good at the end of the day. I fear I may have to quit my job if its helping my T get worse..

Get a good protection (Peltor X5A), part of the cause of my T was from being in noisy enviroments with shitty earmuffs from the 70's, you need to use TOP NOTCH quality in a noisy job.

Also you should avoid using glasses while wearing the protection, since they diminish the noise reduction of the muffs considerably (that's another mistake I made).

Its gotten worse since i opened this thread. Went from mostly one ear and sometimes 2 ear to constantly on both. More high pitch on one ear as well. Oh I havent worked since i opened the thread. Called sick. Is this normal?

Im wearing earplugs most of the time because of annoying neighbours.

You can get help from your doctor to sleep so that will be the first thing to do to help your mood and coping skills to get better and get good ear protection for work.
Taking time off work with tinnitus is normal till you have time get use to it and come to terms with it and find what helps you cope better and talking therapy if need it so try relax and keep relaxing music on if that helps you.
keep posting for support .....love glynis

Thanks for the reply. I think I also have hyperacusis since my tensor tympani muscles or whatever they're called get tense the moment it reaches certain decibels. What would be better to do right now at home relaxing? Wearing earplugs or playing soft music?

I'm actually able to fall asleep so dont need any medication. I went to doctor and he pointed towards my tensor tympani muscles having become sensetive because of anxiety and stress. It's true i've been through very awful times in the last few years. I wonder if this will ever go away.

I've had one ear feeling full for over a year but it's only gotten really bad after listening to pink noise and using ear plugs. Pink and white noise caused my left ear, which was fine, getting the same issues as well. Then ear plugs only made that escelate further I think. I'm actually not sure about the last one. I never used to hear any sort of tinnitus for a whole year untill that combination,

The one consistent thing that each time made things worse were putting things in or one my ear. Think im gonna stop doing that from now on. No more earplugs no more headsets just regular noise

Ok so after a bit of thought I think i'm just going to follow concensus because honestly everything that went wrong happened when I stopped doing that. So here are the rules I will follow from now.

-I'm gonna live a relaxing life without all too much noise and worrying.
-I'm gonna stop avoiding all noises through ear plugs and such.
-I am going to avoid loud noises though. I think above certain decibels? So earplugs only when in car for the most part. Probably gonna leave em there too.
      - I'm gonna start doing what I enjoy once again which I havent in a long time because of this thing.
      - Havent watched tv in a long time so im gonna start doing that as well.

Is anything wrong with this list?

No. Except why are you wearing earplugs in your car - how noisy is it inside!

I always feel my tensor tympani muscle get tense when I get into the car. Plus I drive long distances everyday (3 hour total) on a transporter van. It can get quite annoying everyday. I noticed that it is the one scenario where earplugs has made things a lot better than before, meaning when I get at destination I don't feel affected. What do you think?

Oh and thanks a lot btw for confirming. Relief is something needed right now. Thanks @ everyone

I use muffs for vacuum cleaner. I wear glasses. I didn’t realise they reduced the protection, i can’t see properly without them though..

Your body is sending you a message (louder T acts like pain to alert you that something you have been doing is not ok). If you ignore it, things might keep getting worse.

It got worse after I started protecting my ears excessively. It was only one ear with hyperacusis untill i started using white and pink noise. Then i got earplugs and stayed home for 4 days overprotecting them and it got worse again. I think honestly just living a regular life like before should be the way too go. Drilling with regular ear headset protection never made it worse. Protecting them in normal moments is what did. Im now working again (at this moment) how i normally did and gotta say its not too bad so far. Gotta wait till i get home to be sure howver.

My (uneducated) guess is that it got worse as a result of the noise that got through the protection, not because Less noise got through.

In my experience, ears take a long time to heal, and a long time to react. My T began on day 10 after my acoustic trauma. My guess is that as a result of the noise exposure at work, your ears began getting worse. Days after your exposure to noise was over, you began experiencing the full impact of the damage done by the noise. This is normal.

Unfortunately, you would have to stay at a quiet home for months before you notice any improvement. That's just how T is - it is easy to make it worse, and hard (or at least it takes a very long time) to get better.

I think you're right. So much silence it should be then huh? Sucks man. Wish the solution wouldnt need to be so drastic.

One thing tho is that my tinnitus only started for real after listening to pink noise and masking sounds. After that i used earplugs to block noide everyday and it just kept going downhill
