Hi, I don't often use headphones for music listening, however I am wondering whether movies with headphones are okay. I am not sure, as unlike music, there is not constant sound but there is often more dynamic range in movies than music, so there is more likely to be sudden louder scenes.

People often warn about music with headphones, which is definitely a good idea, but are movies okay? I occasionally use open headphones for gaming and keep the volume low so I want to watch some horror movies because I like the directionality vs 2.0 speakers.

You need to find if it's aggravating your tinnitus or not. Everyone has it different it seems. In my case it's okay to use them.

      Nope.
      Tinnitus + headphones = no.

I believe it really depends on the cause of your tinnitus and if whether or not headphones use aggravates your tinnitus or not. If your tinnitus isn't noise induced then I don't see why it wouldn't be safe to watch a movie with headphones plugged in at a safe volume.

Movie soundtracks are meant to be heard on speakers, and most modern ones use five channels which is better and safer than headphones. Even a well recorded films in mono can sound quite good when properly amplified. Having your speaker system set up properly is key, and you do not have to have the loudest or most expensive sound equipment in the universe to appreciate soundtracks.

Because wearing headphones on a regular basis is not something your ear is built to tolerate. It is amplified sound directly to the ear, which is not something that your ear was naturally built to endure, acoustically speaking.

People with tinnitus who keep on listening to anything via headphones are playing with fire and slowly deteriorating their hearing.

Then one day they come back here with posts like "my tinnitus has been getting worse lately, I don't know why, but I've been listening to music for the last 5 years through headphones, not loudly though".

      Oh well...

Yeah agreed, listen to the horror stories. My tinnitus was tolerable but I kept using headphones and now I have pain hyperacusis and reactive tinnitus that basically keeps me housebound. Learn from my mistakes and use a speaker, they are better for music anyway.

That's a good thing to do. Headphones and earbuds are dangerous!

I had to go crazy with my adult kids, this is no joke. They got the drift when I tossed it all out.
