How do you think you acquired the tinnitus?

Hi, U001, and welcome!

I don't know of anyone who has been cured of tinnitus, but many people (some on this forum) have experienced a lessening of their tinnitus over time. Lots of positive information here! Look around, read some of the threads, and you'll see what we mean!

P.S. --- My severe tinnitus started back in 2010, too.

A few people have seen their tinnitus disappear. Some even after several years. There are testimonies floating around the web left and right. But it is very rare.

Some experimental treatments have diminished or even silenced tinnitus on a few people but it is hard to explain why it works for some and not for others. The success rates are never high anyway. Many many scams lurk everywhere and you need some scientific training to tell the difference.

There was a clinic very advanced in experimental treatments but now that their dirctor and only physician is gone i don't know how they are doing.

Hi U001

Lots of people are effectively cured of their tinnitus by becoming habituated to it to the point of not noticing it any more. I'm not sure there are many people that have actually been cured in the sense that they cannot hear it any more. However, I like to think when I'm not suffering from (with) it, I'm cured.

Cheers

Well I've just finished answering the global tinnitus survey, did my part there ;)

I'm not quite sure how it came about. It was certainly NOT noise related. Over about 24 months it gradually started in the right ear then both ears. From a soft high pitch to a bit louder one. I also have a "feeling" of my inner ears, if that makes sense at all. I remember not being aware of my ears, now I can feel a sensation, as if something is pressing from the inside (fluid?). Done all sorts of tests, scans (MRI / CT), nothing shows as abnormal. So over two years I've researched quite a lot on this and tried many things. My current thinking is I've probably developed a mild intolerance for something I'm eating. Not quite sure what exactly, I'm trying to isolate certain foods, but it's bloody hard! ;)

I understand reappraisal, I'm happy for you that you are content with that. However, in my case, I'll fight this think until I die, that's just the way I am. If I just had tinnitus that would be alright but here's the collection of things that came with it:

1. Tinnitus (when things are quiet)
2. Hyperacusis on certain frequency (my children crying is within that range)
3. Depression (unexplained by any events)
4. Anxiety (unexplained by any events)

so for me it comes as a package, is one causing the other? possible. I'm investigating food intolerance atm, see where that leads me.

Overall, I'm happy for all those who are content with reduction and reappraisal (my ears are singing beautiful music and I'm alive) but that's not my cup of tea ;) I'm interested about going back to the state I was 2 years ago before that developed. It sure has to be the symptoms of something. Looks like mild chronic inflammation of the inner ears to me. But why? What's causing this? .. guess I should talk with an immunologist, who knows.

Me too. I was just trying to offer some hope.
