Hi, I have had tinnitus since 2008. It started as a low chirp in one ear and it has gotten worse. It could have been caused by TMJ. That is when your teeth don’t match up and your jaws don’t close properly when you chew. I had to have dental work to fix that problem. It left me with what now sounds like 3000 chirps that blend together and it’s one fluctuating buzz.

I know that it causes hearing loss so I got hearing aids. I’m told to wear them all day. But now my ears are hyper sensitive and the buzzing is louder. If I rest in a quiet room it’s very annoying. I’m surely going to lose what hearing I have left with these hearing aids.

      Hi Phyllis Peterson,

Don't wear your hearing aids. If you're having a reaction i.e. a louder new noise as a result of wearing them, then don't.

Talk to your ENT or hearing specialist. If they are not helpful and doubt you, find a new one.
      Not easy, I know.

      Take care,
      Daniel

Going through the same thing. They really seem to help some people, but not everyone.

Hi, the first night after the new hearing aids, my tinnitus was worse, could not sleep with the noise but after the second and third day with them, my tinnitus is diminished. It's not gone but it's improved a lot since the first day.

That's great! I am struggling with mine. Sometimes it seems like it's helping and sometimes it makes the tinnitus worse.

I wouldn't wear these again, if I were you.

Monday I got fitted for hearing aids, I have no hearing loss, just tinnitus. They sent me home with a pair until mine arrive.

They worked great for about 5 hours then the high pitch sound came through. So I didn’t wear them for most of Tuesday. Wednesday I didn’t start out with them but it was my best morning in a long time, not much noise, then when I started to notice the ringing I put them in and they worked great for about 3 hours and now they don’t help.

I was told that with the new ones I will be able to change the masker for when the pitch changes to a higher one. Just feeling that sense of normalcy for a bit is worth it to me until I can adjust with it more.

I am not sure hearing aids make sense for those who do not have any hearing loss.

Perhaps maskers is a better option.
