This diagram misses the up and down roller coaster (most likely followed by a fall to the terminal step "I can't do it") between "I'll try to do it" and "I can do it" steps.

 

That diagram is in terms of taking some form of action, Bill. If someone does something for charity, for example, it is a permanent thing and cannot be followed by a fall. Only good can come from good; positivity breeds positivity and vice versa.

 

If that action is donating to a charity, then I see your point. But if that action is "finding a cure for T"...

One popular saying in Russia (following a failure) is "What I was trying to do was to improve things, to do something good. But things had worked out the way they usually work out." Three days to go folks, and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll make it .

It’s been six weeks - with loads of thread views - but we’ve still only managed 42 donations! Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely grateful to every single person who has contributed and realise that not everyone is in a financial position to donate. However, if we’re being honest with ourselves (for a lot of us), £5 ($7 us), is not a lot of money. We often waste more than this on meaningless stuff that we don’t think twice about. This could possibly be one of the most meaningful fivers you’ll ever spend.

So, if you’re in a position to contribute, please think about the huge effect that all these donations will make to the running of this site, and for tinnitus in general. We all want to help the cause, so let’s do it! This is a perfect opportunity for us all to come together and make stuff happen!

Let’s av it tinnitus talk, and let’s make ourselves heard instead of hiding in the shadows.

 

I can’t donate any more at the moment Ed, I’m sorry. Even if you don’t make the 50 you have done a lot.

 

I wouldn’t expect you to, Nanny, as you have already made a contribution to which I’m extremely grateful for as I’m sure TT is.

This exercise perfectly demonstrates how hard it is to motivate the tinnitus community. We all want treatments and cures, but we can’t even put 50 donations together to help the site that supports us the most. I just think it’s a huge shame. I often see comparisons to other conditions and illnesses (cancer being an obvious one) - which I see as unnecessary - but you know what? Some of those conditions raise a lot of money for research. What are we expecting to happen when the interest in raising money for tinnitus research is this low?

I will note that @Jaybeee managed to raise over £1000 for the BTA! She, and others like her, are the real heroes in my opinion. It’s hard work raising money and I suppose that’s why the majority shy away from it. But, the truth is this: it’s the only way we’ll ever make significant progress. Both in terms of awareness and potential treatments. We need more action!

Let’s leave the deadline until midnight Sunday. That gives us the most time to finish what we started

 

Just made another donation to support those who have the heart to donate but lack the financial means. For those who have the financial freedom to donate but haven't yet, next time who splurge on something, think about what it would be like if TT did not exist and what you would have rather done.

I have just been waiting. If we get five more donors by your deadline, I will make the last one to your drive!

I experienced the same situation with the ATA back in 2004. With larger organizations the problem is the egotism on behalf of the board members with their own agendas. They easily toss away people who were big donors and forget about them. It does not help one to be more giving even when you do not expect anything back. But appreciation is simply not a part of the ATA's agenda.

When I donated back a while to TT before I started posting wow the immediate responses of thanks was wonderful and very professional. It made me feel I made a difference for the people who give their time to maintain this forum and bring awareness to different conferences.

And TT is making big strides with the ATA.

It makes one feel like a part of the group when or if they are able to donate.

To be fair Jiri, I think most people know about this thread already. It should be entirely their choice if they want to donate or not. PMing people would be the online equivalent of being a door to door salesman .
