Cause of Tinnitus
Acoustic Trauma
Well, my tinnitus started about 15 years ago. Back during my military career I was exposed to countless explosions and rounds of ammunition, loud machinery and other sources of loud noise. I didn't always wear hearing protection when I should have... sometimes out of necessity others out of my own disregard. Hindsight eh?

Well I now have hearing loss and wear hearing aids. I've also had a ringing in my ears 24/7 for well over a decade. I no longer remember what quiet is supposed to sound like.

I've tried masking it, background noise and night and other things. Nothing seems to cover it up. I'm often exhausted and irritable, have trouble falling asleep... at times I feel like I'm going mad. Anyway, I'm tired of being told there is nothing that can be done. I stumbled across this group after googling tonight trying to get tired enough to fall asleep

@Sgt_Dubie ,
Welcome to Tinnitus Talk.
I have just read your story and I can only imagine the sounds your ears had to cope with and the aftermath now having tinnitus.
You will get lot's of support on here and make friends along the way.

Sleep can be a big problem but it's finding what helps you sleep better.

Sound therapy, meditation,medication, bed routine can help .
I take a low antidepressant just 25mg and sleep ok most nights.

love glynis

Hey, some people have found some relief with prednisolone, circumin, and or zinc. It's all anecdotal and not proven but may be worth a shot. There's a ton of research going on at the moment and I'm confident we will get some relief in a couple years or even sooner :)
