Hello. I am 40, and have had tinnitus for i dont know how long. I think it crept up on me. But i do remember as a kid i did not have it. Ah the sweet memory of silence.

Anyway there is a very high pitched, piercing one, a myriad of middle pitched tones and a low humming, maybe like a motor.

I have TMJ, allergies, chronic migraines, depression and anxiety. Geez when i type it out it seems like i am a mess but i function well. I guess i had a lot of head trauma as i did tae kwan do from 12-20 years old.

I am a single mom of 2 and i work in a hospital. I put the radio on all day and cover it up, i dont do that at home because i get tired of music and people talking. I think the high pitched squeal must get louder and softer, because sometimes its like it kicks back in.

Hi @Jeannie25 . The temporary increases in volume can be caused by a number of things, usually stress will trigger a "spike". TMJ is also known to cause and trigger tinnitus, so any additional treatments for that may help as well.

I am glad that music can mask your tinnitus. That is great, but please be careful if you use headphones.

Depression and anxiety are also common, and you should take care of those. They will exacerbate tinnitus symptoms.

Staying positive (which is seems like you do) is very important in coping with tinnitus.

@billie48 wrote his success story demonstrating how positivity helped him habituate.

Like you, I have had tinnitus for as long as I can remember. Mine is such that I cannot mask it with music or anything, experiments have stoped when the volume reached a point where I felt it would damage my ears.

I wish you luck and please keep us posted on your progress.
