Low Frequency Tinnitus Appeared Suddenly Two Days Ago

Two days ago out of the blue a new tinnitus tone, very low frequency, 160Hz, started

I thought it was the neighbors' TV noise through the wall.

Not sure what caused this, only thing out of the ordinary is I took 2x500mg extra strength Tylenol over a period of 24h.

Any ideas? Does low frequency tinnitus have any significance?

do not take anymore tylenol, check for low frequency hearing loss such as trouble hearing competing low pitch noises + background noise. I hope it fades.

I can still hear the pitch on my phone with background noise from PC speaker, I don't feel my hear is changed.

But it is get worse! don't know what to do

Low pitch for 3 years now.... Try masking with other low pitch sounds from air purifiers, fans, fish tanks, air conditioners, air humidifiers and such. Hopefully It is just temporary.

Can you hear it outsisde?

@OnceUponaTime I've had it for a month and a half now. The volume has subsided significantly. While i was on the medicine that i think gave me the T, the humming was unbearable. Thank you for the tips, low sounds do mask the sound itself but not the eardrum flutters. Now, its much better, but i'm worried that i still feel the vibrations in my ear/head. I'm following other threads about low pitched T. @Eric N , you are not alone.

I think it's two low frequency sounds competing, it getting harder to mask.

I started taking NAC 1200mg/day but so far its not helping.

Doesn't ototoxic medication start with high frequency hearing loss?

It's horrible that there is nothing I can do now expect wait

Hey @Eric N ! How are you feeling now? The fact that you have two low hum sounds must be stressful, but we are here for you! If you don't have a vibration feeling caused by the Tinnitus, try Fans or Air purifiers like OnceUponATime suggested. Technically I developped a high pitched electronic ring in my right ear, along with the low intrusive hum in the left ear. The reality is I can ignore the high pitch T, but the low humming is just unbearable. if you don't have the headzaps, you can mask it better. For me it subsided so im confident it will for you too.

Cut back on foods with alot of salt, sodium, and sugar.

If you're a stomach sleeper, try to slowly adjust and sleep on your sides and back.

Massage your neck and face since sometimes it's pressure that causes T.

Most of all don't stress and get 8 hours of sleep everynight, it will get better.

I too had the ear flutters for about 2 months, and thank God, it went away.

I dont think the Tylenol was the cause of the low t. Maybe stress?

It is indeed. I have vibrsting bass pounding rasping noise going on.abd it is a killer. I know because I can also compare it to run going and static which I have as well and this is putting me into jump off a cliff territor.

@Basshell If I was you, I would go to my GP and say hi doc and describe the above. I would ask the doc, how about some basic blood work including FBC, ESR, blood chemistry, clotting and lipid profile. I would also talk to your GP about getting a MRA on neck and behind the ears. You may just have a vein or nerve that needs treatment. A MRA is a doper ultra sound. The decibel level is about 35 - ear plugs would do just fine.

Low tones under 1K, something is seriously wrong and I don't know who to go see about it the ENT is going to be completely useless

I feel for you Eric. I am worried that my ear issue might be myoclonus, though this is my conjecture, since nobody would be bothered to examine me for it. I'd hate to have this condition.....

Generally.... I find low pitched tinnitus to be more intrusive and anxiety-inducing.
Then again all tinnitus is hell.

Sorry to hear that It's incredible to see that you have had so many permanent increases. Makes me sad.

Mine started in 2015, got significantly worse in 2017 and since then I have added two new tones my orchestra. The latest is also a low frequency hum in my right ear. It came out of nowhere.

I'd go to an ENT just to get a checkup and track the state of my hearing. Each time I go, I feel some sort of hope, yet at the same time I can more or less predict what they will tell me.

Anyone have relief from the vibrating hum sound? I'm going crazy with this! When I plug my ear completely it goes away. It's mainly my right ear. I am concerned it could be vascular but I would think the sound wouldn't stop with ear plugging. I am hoping someone has some answers since no doctor can figure it out.

I have the same thing guys.

Here's what's interesting about it.... Its here on its own, but is made worse anytime a sound of similar frequency is made, so, a jet flying overhead at first, the AC unit running, etc.

I found out that if I place my head with my ear touching the pillow and the top of my skull touching the wooden headboard in my bed upstairs, I can hear the vibration of the AC unit which is outside, downstairs. It mimics the pattern of that running.

If I go into the laundry room which is in the center of the house and well insulated, the humming mostly stops (although not entirely at times).

If Im standing and touch my chin to my chest with my mouth closed, and then tilt head back and repeat, I can hear my ears click.

Mine started out with this low end really bad, loud, and unstoppable. Prednisone stopped it after a few days, but it returned after that, at a lower volume. It then went away for roughly a week, and now it's back again.

It's terribly frustrating, but I really suspect it's mechanical or inflammation related, and will pass.

I have it in my left ear and it has got louder and louder months after my acoustic trauma. Sometimes things sound a bit distorted like I can hear this seashell sound in my ear. I can hear low frequency tinnitus almost constantly, I can only forget it when I mask it and it has been difficult to find masking noises that work because I also hear high pitched electric sizzling sound too. My low pitched tinnitus sound like constant "eeeeee" sound but my high pitched tinnitus sound like "e...e...e...eee". Yeah, it is not easy to find masking sounds! Both sounds are reactive. One day when I got home from louder shopping centre, my low pitched tinnitus was really loud and I had difficulties to sleep.

My ears are sensitive to lower frequencies. I don't know if I have low frequency hearing loss. My audiogram was normal though but I don't know if it detects low frequency hearing loss really well.

Are there any success stories? Are there any people on this forum who have had low pitched tinnitus and it has gone completely away? Many people describe how their tinnitus has got quieter, but mine has only got louder.

Mine has gone down. A lot of the time I don't hear it anymore. It does come back once in a while but it's quieter and doesn't last long. Took about 3 months to calm down.

Nice to hear that. I hope my low pitched tinnitus will calm down too.
