      Hello,

Having suffered a single tone tinnitus my entire life, I was surprised when it disappeared for a few days during my diagnostic treatment for my jaw and ear problems caused by a malocclusion.

My dentist made a hard acrylic bite splint, called a Michigan splint. He ground down wherever my top teeth hit first until there was completely even contact from my molars to canines. For the first time in my life, my tinnitus went away, along with my jaw and ear problems.

I'm not in braces but my ortho has messed up and all my symptoms are terrible.

Is your tinnitus louder when you clench your teeth? If so, I think it stands to reason that perhaps you are always clenching and don't realise, like I was. The cause would be the that your teeth don't quite fit perfectly and your jaw muscles have to clench to compensate.

Do your upper molars flare outwards?
