Hi Everyone,

I got tinnitus on 9/23/2017 and it was mild, could only hear it in a quiet place. There would be frequent spikes when I didnt wear earplugs or when a sudden Nosie would occur. The spikes would be nasty and they would cover every sound.

Here is a list of places I got a spike

1) Going to a bar for 10 minutes (no earplugs), was there for 10 minutes, spike for 4 days

2) Walking next to a busy street (no earplugs) 3 days

3) Going to a mall without earplugs, spike lasted 4 days

4) Door Slamming, spike 2 days

5) Ambulance passed while i was driving spike 5 days, no earplugs
and so on so forth

however on 1/17/2017 I was at the library reading a book, no earplugs, because why the hell do you need earplgus in the library right, well that same night i got a bad spike, to make matters worse i was at home laying on my bed watching Netflix when two helicopters passed over my house, it was loud and i didnt wear earplugs, i covered my ear, this exacerbated the tinnitus and right now i can hear it over everything, when i say everything, i mean i can hear it over people talking, sound machine, tv, my own voice, even when driving on a freeway i can hear it.

This was the longest spike i ever had so far and the most severe, i also developed a new sound as well. I PRAY TO GOD THAT THIS WILL GO AWAY. My Tinnitus before this was manageable..i could sleep...watch tv. I can hear this screeching metallic sound over everything now. It has been 5 days so far :( :(
Please pray

Sorry to hear that you're going through a rough time man. Do you think it might be a possibility that part of the increase in your T is stress and anxiety related? My T goes through the roof when I focus on it too much, volume increases like crazy and new tones come out of the woodwork.

nope, my anxiety/stress never caused T to go up..it was always sound..moderate to loud sound.

I used to spike over everything, but lately I've just not payed much attention to loud noise. I think when we hear a loud sound and immediately decide that our hearing has likely been compromised, it sets off a vicious circle of focusing on the T and obsession on whether or not there will be a permanent increase. I know it's really difficult, but when you hear something loud just try to forget that it even happened, this strategy has been working quite well for me.

Impossible! I went to the mall without earplugs and was quite happy..later that night T spiked up. Moderate to loud sounds make my T worse. I learned it the hard way. I pray to god that i go back to my baseline and never again will i walk outside of my home without earplugs. Peltor muffs will be on my head each time i am out of the house.

Sustained noise still gives me spikes sometimes... How long were you at the mall?

xmas shopping for an hour, but this new spike happened because of the fire alarm that went off at the library. I was reading a book and the fire alarm came on, two hours later a spike, the next day i was home watching Netflix and three helicopters (military) flew over my house. That exacerbated the T.

Yeah. I am going through the same thing. Got my T to improve and go back to mild and went to a restaurant I have eaten safely at twice post T and have had the loudest spike that has, after a week, not improved at all. And my H got worse too.

I am depressed when i think that life will be this way. I hope you get better Red.

I pray to god that this spike goes away. People protect your hearing while outside.

Fire alarms are no joke... I hate those things with a passion. They just come out of nowhere, and 99/100 times there's not even a fire.

Tell me about it! I was at the library without earplugs reading a book when they came on. My T was mild and it was only noticeable in a queit room. I never heard it at the office or at the library, but now I can hear it over everything.
We need to wear earplugs while outside..one mistake can cost us. I am convinced that us who suffer from T at are high risk of damaging ourselves further even with moderate sounds.

There has to be something that can be done. I have been fearing the moment our fire alarm goes off. I live in an apartment so it will, just as it has several times before. The only thing that can be done is disable?

How long were you exposed before you plugged your ears?

It was for a second but it was loud. That night i got a huge spike (wed) today is (mon) and the spike has remained. Usually my spikes last 3-4 days.
I been exposing myself to moderate sounds like going to the mall, walking outside, door slamming, etc

Spikes are a warning in my opinion.

I have (foolishly) disabled my smoke detectors because they always go off when I'm cooking (and I cook a lot), sometimes even thirty minutes after. I'm gonna start plugging the one in my bedroom back in for when I go to sleep though, kind of a pain in the ass to do everyday but it will keep me safe.

I made amends that Tinnitus disabled me. My life will never be the same. I am just hoping that this spike goes away. I am fine with not going out to a café, resturant, cinema, club, concert, etc ever again. I know it sucks but after this spike I learned that life is not nor will it ever be the way it once was. We all live on the edge and each day is a gamble for us T suffers.

Red, I am afraid of fire alarms in my office. I am so scared that one day it will come on and leave me with permanent disabling Tinnitus. If it ever reaches that point i will off myself.

I am pretty sure this is permanent.
