Measuring Hearing Loss with Loud Tinnitus

Hello all,

I asked myself how hearing loss is measured if the tinnitus is very loud.

Background: I had a cold during which the tinnitus was very loud and I think that if I had had an audiogram in those days, I wouldn't have heard the beeps, while after the cold I have no problem perceiving even extremely quiet sounds.

Now, is it possible that someone has very loud tinnitus without objective hearing loss but the audiogram shows hearing loss because the patient can't perceive the beeps due to the loudness of their tinnitus? If that was the case, there would be a lot of measurement errors by researchers and doctors, so I'm asking myself whether I overlooked something and didn't think of something.

I'll probably be able to answer that question tomorrow as I have a hearing test. I find that I can usually mentally secan for and find an isolated tone through my tinnitus if I concentrate as long as the tone is lower than my T (as most tones are). Parsing very quiet sounds that are more complex or transient (like really quiet leaves rustling, raindrops, birds chirping outside) is a different story. So I am thinking my test will be relatively good despite the T volume. But I am nervous about it regardless.

My tinnitus is really loud and I have no idea how I can take a hearing test now. So many tones and they are loud. How on earth do you hear their tones for the test with that?

 

I read that you hear everything you can even with t, the t is simply on top of the noise.

 

One way to do it for those who have success with clonazepam lowering their tinnitus would be take an audiogram with full tinnitus and one on clonazepam and see if there was a significant difference between the tests.

 

I don't think I can take the test anymore.

I can confirm that it was the same for me... hearing test or wearing earplugs is akin to torture for me.

Such bs. I can't imagine hearing some fucking faint beeps with a bunch of tinnitus tones blaring constantly.
