      My Daughter has been diagnosed
      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Objective Tinnitus with two ops
For a long time I had to battle to convince G.P's my Daughter then 7 should not have a clicking noise in her ear that I could hear up to 6 inches away ! , we had both been reduced to tears that she was hearing things ! and I her Mother was making her anxiety of hearing things worse by being upset in front of her !

After complaining and using common sense and an O level Biology qualifications only to my name when it come to ears ! We finally get to see a specialist in Ear, nose and throat department in hospital, they agreed they could hear the noise but did not know what it was ! ..hearing tests, sound tests etc in noise proofed room where sent to specialist in London Dr Prinsley... He confirmed my Daughter Angel had Objective Tinnitus in both ears permanently clicking ...extremely rare in children at the time only a handful of paediatric cases worldwide... The whole hospital staff by my daughters and my agreement were excited to come and hear the clicking that day ... It helped my Daughter feel better as it does make her suffer !

Dr Prinsley wanted to see Angel ..after consultations first operation to try stop it or make it intermittent for some relief took place ( operations like this come with high risk of causing deafness)
That first op on one ear ( as one ear done at a time because of risks of deafness) left Angel with intermittent Objective Tinnitus but not cured.

Second Operation was a new not tried before operation which I agreed to and allowed students and film made etc for research still didn't cure her but did make it intermittent instead of permanent which gave reprieves not cure but at least it helped as, I still to this day don't know how she copes with this.

Music in her ears have helped to block out the clicking.

She's now 19 and still suffers but has learned to live with it .. and is having new consultations with Dr Prinsley again.

I have recently through work met a young teen actress with clicking intermittent in her ears and Mother was told she was hearing things after brain and ear scan ! I have took part in recent consultation at hospital with her and her Mother and thankfully the consultant listened to me and is now referring her to hopefully Dr Prinsley or at least E.N.T specialist.....
I will follow her in this journey.

I joined this forum to help give courage to anyone and their parents not to roll over to your hearing things diagnoses! and to help give general advice support from my now 12 years experience of this.

Thank Goodness I have not suffered this myself ...but I have vast experience on this subject which I'm happy to try help anyone in their concerns, suffering or journey objective tinnitus.

Dr Prinsley told my Daughter she was special ( because she was so rare) but it's one way she was special I wish she was not.

Angel did not have this condition until we flew on a plane to film my role in movie Mister Lonely, on take off she really suffered obvious pain in her ears, and she had flown before many times with no problems of severe pain in her ears.

Dr Prinsley does not think this was obviously the cause to start it, but to me it was. Hanna the young actress I'm supporting had a bad effect to flying before her clicking in her ears started.

      Kind Regards

What an insightful post. Your daughter must be a trouper, most of us here have subjective T, no one else can hear it. The fact that you could means that you totally get it, which is normally hard for people who don't have the condition. They forget that our ears are ringing or making other irritating sounds 24/7 because they can't see it. I am surprised that objective T couldn't be eliminated, we are somewhat behind in all areas of T treatment it appears. Thank you for sharing your story.
