Unfortunately, my T has spiked again. Last night I could not sleep with a white noise and my right ear and my left ear both ring louder in low pitch noises. By left ear makes a strange, low pitch machine-like noise that sounds like morse code...And also seems to be loud when a pillow is on it. And my right ear makes a low pitch hum. The low pitch hum is somewhat reactive too.

It really sucks. Please help me?

Are you around loud noise? Listening to music with earbuds/headphones?

I don't listen to a white noise using earbuds or headphones. I listen to them using a white noise machine. It's a rain sound btw.

I know how you feel as I had it for weeks and ended up off work a few weeks and drove me nuts and mental torture.
Nortryptaline stopped it and my head tinnitus but still have high pitch tinnitus.
The low drone hum comes back with a virus and hard to mask both sounds together.

I found sleeping with my ears on a warm towel relaxing but did not help the sound just made me feel cozzy.
Nice smelling lavender was relaxing and the sense of smell a bit of a distraction.
I had to take sleeping tablets then my doctor said Nortryptaline would help sleep and my tinnitus and I thank him so much for looking into it for me and trying me on it as it was like winning the lottery.

I currently have ultra-high frequency T, so masking isn't much of an option. I say 'currently' because I refuse to accept that it is not going to get better. Positivity is huge. I put on some light-hearted comedy on the TV and play some noise to at least have another noise source, along with some anti-anxiety meds my doctor gave me which help me sleep. Stay positive!

Have you been eating salty or sugary foods? -- If yes, cut those out and don't eat or drink anything but water after 7:00pm.

For immediate relief, try a phone app with crickets listen with ear buds. -- I use the "Phonak" app with the cicadas sound.

I've been eating cereal before I go to bed. Don't know why, but I do. Also junk foods :p

You're talking to a 'Murican here.

Ha ha.. I had to google "Murican" but now know what that means.

I love the junk food too and went there this weekend. -- My T has been spiking since and I have been bummed out because of it.

When I am on a healthy diet, my T is there but doesn't bother me. -- It has been tough changing my eating habits and I do "fall off the wagon" on occasion like this past weekend.

Ironically, when I drink beer (5+ bottles) but stay on a healthy diet, I barely notice my T the next day. -- I'm tempted to just start drinking beer every evening but that won't go over well with the wife.. :)

You may be a good candidate for RTMS, according to my audiologist they observed that in case someone's T diminishes after alcohol they react very good to rTMS. I have no clue why should this work this way, but this is what he claimed.

I would get a Soundpillow, it's just a pillow with a speaker in it. Ideal if you have T in both ears.

Thanks Mentos! I need to research RTMS since I never heard of it. :)

I also tried plugging my GOOD ear yesterday and it lowered my T by a lot in my bad ear. -- Another poster suggested it for temporary relief and it actually works. Can't see doing that all day but it does provide relief.

Actually, I don't play with headphones. Even way before I got tinnitus I've been playing with just speakers. I like to play Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod.

I think an ear infection is responsible for the ringing.

Wow, that's good to know! I've made some calls around town and haven't been able to get a firm answer as to whether rTMS works for tinnitus. Since insurance won't likely cover it, I don't want to gamble. But that's really good to know about the alcohol.
