Hi all, haven't posted in a while. I have had tinnitus for a few years, a high pitched tone in both ears. Last week I was reading a book in bed and noticed a strange sound, like a morse code beep. That entire day my neck and head were hurting so I was trying to relax a little. Thought it was something from outside but then realised it was coming from my right ear.

Went to the ENT and he said I had wax built up, so he removed it and sent me home, it is a low volume sound and it stops if I put my finger in the ear, but when I am studying or trying to sleep is very bothersome, I'm starting to freak out.

I don't want to go through hell again.

If someone knows what could it be I'll be very grateful.

      Thank you all

Maybe inflamation in your ear causing your hearing be down slightly and picking up your carotid artery pulse.
Now the wax has gone any inflamation might settle and your sound might go.
      Love glynis

I have multiple sounds and one of them is what you describe, it's tonal but comes in a morsecode like pattern. The odd thing is when I plug my ear with my finger it seems as if the tone becomes constant. I've assumed it's regular T. Mine started after a flight.

Have you been exposed to loud sound environments, pressure changes or had any colds recently?

Went to a bar on Friday night but the music wasn't loud and I was plugged. I have many sounds too but this being a new one is the one that bothers me the most. Thanks for answering

Thank you Glynis. I don't know what might be causing it, this week I'll go back to the ENT to get a full check, he told me wait a few days and see what happens before doing the full hearing check. Is not that loud, but I'm constantly looking for it l, I'm very anxious. Hope you are doing great

I'm still waiting to do an MRI but I have this sound in my ear - its like Morse code and a radio tuner dial. I've had T since 2010 but last fall my R ear got loud and these sounds started shortly after. I've had this for months now. When I plug my ear it sounds like it is vibrating wildly inside. So I have no clue either. I have gotten some suggestions - like typewriter T but it really sounds electronic if that makes any sense. So I don't know if it fits that. It is really weird though.

JSalvatore, I have some kind of beeping too... mine maybe more accurately sounds like multiple car alarms with almost a warning bell/alarm (lots of different tones). Do you have any clues as to what is causing yours? I have had a hard time finding other people with a similar sound!

If you are able to stop or change your Tinnitus through external stimulus to your ear, as you describe, you may have a curable condition called a myoclonus.

Go to a specialist ASAP. They can help verify if what you are experiencing is subjective or objective.

I have a tonal morsecode that comes and goes. When my tinnitus is particularly bad I'll also get this tonal beeping that sounds like it's coming from a different room in my right ear. Thankfully it's not there all the time like this head tinnitus.

Same happening to me, if I put my finger in the ear the morse code sound stops. Does it dissapear or calm down in your case?

I'm wondering about the morse code version of tinnitus. Never knew it manifested that way until recently. I've read a few articles and they talk about tapping sounds. But that's not what I hear. I was a morse intercept operator in the USAF about 50 years ago and the morse I hear is the morse I copied back then. It really doesn't bother me since I don't have to try to copy it :) I'm not even sure it's tinnitus and if it's some sort of weird hallucination I'm actually fine with that since it's a mild and harmless form of looniness.

I'm curious about it though and if any of you can comment on it I'd appreciate it. rvici--that's an example of the characters I got just a few seconds ago. It's really uncanny how much it's like what I remember...or maybe it's not uncanny at all. The code itself is mostly garbled and it varies in speed too.

I really would love to hear from anyone.

I have the morse code too, I think.

To me it sounds like the old digital landline phones people had around 1980-1990.

Unobtrusive unless it starts interfering with engines and running water.
